Health Innovation Network

The Health Innovation Network is the Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) for south London. We are an NHS team that works flexibly across the health and care sector, industry, academia and in partnership with south London residents to speed up innovation and improve care. As an AHSN we are uniquely established to help innovators navigate the complex health and care system and we work with our members (academia and local health and care teams in south London), national commissioners (NHS England & Improvement, Office for Life Sciences), industry and the third sector to make sure south Londoners benefit from innovations on a daily basis.

AI Centre

The AI Centre is led by King’s College London and Guy’s and Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, alongside 10 NHS Trusts, four Universities, a number of multi-national industry partners including Siemens, NVIDIA, IBM, GSK, 10 UK-based SME’s and the Health Innovation Network, and was established in February 2019 as part of the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund. At the AI Centre, we are developing technology that allows us to access large volumes of well-curated clinical data in a controlled environment, with the appropriate technical architecture, governance, and clinical expertise. Our two platforms, AIDE (AI Deployment Engine) and FLIP (Federated Learning & Interoperability Platform), will provide access to high-quality electronic health data for the purpose of deployment and development of AI Technology. Scaling AI across 10 NHS trusts, it will enable testing and deployment of AI in clinical practice and share data in a way that is safe and secure. We are also creating applications that will drive innovation in healthcare and allow for the fundamental redesign of clinical pathways to improve outcomes and reduce costs.

The AHSN Network is the collective voice of the 15 regional Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs), which operate as the innovation arm of the NHS in England.

Each AHSN covers a distinct geography and tailors its offer to suit the needs of its local health and care systems. Nationally, the AHSNs work together as a connected ‘network of networks’ to deliver transformation at scale.

National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)

NICE’s role is to improve outcomes for people using the NHS and other public health and social care services. This is done by producing evidence-based guidance and advice for health, public health and social care practitioners. As a partner on this project, NICE will host the secretariat for the service, provide guidance on the pathways for Health Technology Assessment in England and expertise in generating robust evidence that demonstrates a technology’s clinical and cost effectiveness within the health system.
