John is currently ranked as the #1 global influencer in digital health and the future of health innovation. His focus is on guiding companies, NGOs, and governments through the dynamics of exponential change in the health / tech marketplaces. His voice is one that helps to define, dissect and deliberate global trends in digital health. He is also a member of the Google Health Advisory Board and a frequent and popular contributor to Fortune, Forbes, Psychology Today and Bloomberg. 

Dr. Chander is a physician, neuroscientist, and futurist who trained at Harvard, UCSD, UCSF, and the Salk Institute. She is Chair of Neuroscience and Faculty of Medicine at Singularity University, Visiting Scholar in Medicine at Stanford (where she was on faculty for 8 years), and Senior Non-Resident Fellow at the Atlantic Council GeoTech Center. She has also co-founded and leads 2 companies during the pandemic – Lucidify, a tele-neuroICU platform, and Plexxus, a company building the world’s connected global immune system. Dr. Chander also serves on a NASA-White House task force for COVID19, and both co-chairs and directs the post-pandemic global health initiative for OneShared.World. Her research interests center around mapping human consciousness, how consciousness will be altered by human augmentation, and how mapping consciousness in humans may enable us to recognize it in non-human, intelligent beings (both on and off-planet). In 2004, she was a finalist for astronaut selection, and has since maintained a passion for building medical systems in space to sustain human exploration.

Christopher Kelly is a staff research scientist working in Google’s Health AI team. He focuses on the development of novel artificial intelligence technologies in health and their safe translation towards clinical impact. Prior to joining Google, he completed a PhD in medical imaging at King’s College London. As a clinician, he created an award-winning smartphone app called NeoMate, used worldwide to support doctors and nurses looking after sick newborn infants. He continues to practise as a paediatrician on the neonatal intensive care unit at St Thomas’ Hospital, London. Alongside medicine, Chris previously founded two internet startups that were both acquired and is an active angel investor in technology startups.

Daniel leads the Medtech and Digital team in NHS England’s Innovation, Research and Life Sciences team. His team seeks to accelerate the safe and ethical use of leading medical technologies by NHS, whilst supporting the UK life science’s sector. His work involves working with AAC partners on policy development to identify and address challenges within the UK innovation ecosystem, from improving regulatory and NHS market access to creating sustainable commissioning and adoption pathways. Daniel also runs related innovation programmes, including the £124m AI Award in Health and Social Care, the Medtech Funding Mandate Policy, and the c£20m p.a. Small Business Research Initiative. 

Prior to this role, Daniel working in strategy consulting, healthcare insurance and co-founded an educational Charity that took him to South Africa, where he developed a life-long love of Capetonian food, wine and cricket.

Dominic Cushnan joined the NHS in 2014 and is currently Head of AI Imaging for the NHS AI Lab. Dominic previously founded a technology company specialising in computer vision and human interface technologies. 

Since his appointment in the NHS AI Lab, in January 2020, he has developed an AI Buyers’ Guide for healthcare and developed the National Covid-19 Chest Imaging Database for the training and testing of AI models.

On leaving the management consultancy Experian I joined UCL’s Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis as a senior research fellow. It was there that I made initial contact with Dr Foster, analysing the relationship between geodemography and health outcomes. We were looking at the use of postcode level statistics to standardise hospital mortality rates alongside variables such as age, sex and diagnosis to enable hospitals to be compared with one another. In 2004 I joined Dr Foster as Director of Product Development where I oversaw the company’s development of tools across clinical benchmarking, financial management and health needs mapping. In 2007 I was made Honorary Professor at UCL in the field of Geomatic and Civil Engineering. In 2010 I joined East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where I am Chief Analytical Officer responsible for informatics, coding and AI, I am also the Chair of the Analytics Board for Kent and Medway.  I am a graduate of the King’s Fund future leaders course and was named in the HSJ Top 50 Innovators in Health 2013. I am the Founder of Beautiful Information, an Analytics consultancy and OpenDataSavesLives, a not for profit research body.

Lee Rickles is a member of the CIO advisory board, a CHIME Certificated Health Chief Information Officer and alumni of the Digital Academy.  

He has three decades transformation and programme management experience.  His first decade focused on UK military aircraft project for the T-45 Goshawk, Sea Harrier, AV-8B and Nimrod.  During the last two decades, he has focused on digital transformation in the NHS, Information Technology services and Business Intelligence for NHS organisations. Lee has also had significant experience in the development of change strategies; digital developments and procurement of Information Technology Services and systems.

He is currently is leading the development of the Yorkshire & Humber Care Record, Digital transformation of Humber Coast & Vale ICS and the CIO of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.

Junaid is a triple board certified practising physician in the NHS (the UK’s National Health Service), and the Chief Medical Scientist at Microsoft Research. His work focuses on transforming the practice of medicine with trusted, reliable and human centred AI. He leads much of Microsoft’s future clinical, scientific and regulatory strategy, plus leads some of Microsoft’s global engagement with premier healthcare, and life sciences organisations.

Junaid is also a Board member of one of the UK’s largest research hospitals (UCLH), Board member of the MHRA (the UK’s regulator for medicines, and medical devices in the UK), and Governor at Nuffield Health (the UK’s largest Health Charity). He was previously the Global Lead for Strategic Alliances and Solutions for the Global Digital Centre of Excellence at Merck Sharp & Dohme, where he led a range of strategic initiatives to improve patient care, including establishment of internal partnerships across the enterprise and external partnerships across the health care ecosystem. He cofounded “VelocityHealth” as Europe’s first prevention focused digital-health accelerator, in partnership with Telefonica, and led his team to deliver the “NHS Testbed” in partnership with Verily Life Sciences (part of Alphabet), which the Health Service Journal recognized the “Best Pharmaceutical Partnership with the NHS” in 2018.

Previously, Junaid has worked across primary care, secondary care, and public health settings in addition to acting as a payer, and policy maker within the UK, where he specialized in informatics, digital transformation, and leadership. He has consulted for health care systems across the US, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Europe, in addition to being seconded by the NHS to work with IBM. Junaid completed his MBA at the Imperial College Business School in London and has studied health strategy and quality improvement at both Harvard and the Institute of Healthcare Improvement in Boston. Academically, he is a Clinical Associate Professor at UCL (University College London), an Associate Fellow at the Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI Center), and a Visiting Scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr Indra Joshi has a unique portfolio of experience spanning data/AI strategy and implementation, whilst remaining true to her professional training as an emergency medic.  She is currently working across the global health and life sciences portfolio of Palantir Technologies to enable better use of data to impact health and care. 

Dr. Joshi created the NHS AI Lab which led to the development and deployment of over 80 AI technologies into UK health and care, whilst determining the right ethical guidance and regulations to protect patients. As a former member of the World Health Organization Digital Health Technical Advisory Group, she was one of the of 20 globally renowned experts whose experience and knowledge are leveraged to support digital health programs and policy in the global healthcare ecosystem. 

Alongside she is an associate editor for BMJ Leader, a Founding Member of One HealthTech – a volunteer network which exists to drive better equality, diversity and accessibility in health innovation; and most importantly a mum to two wonderful little munchkins.

Rob is the CMIO for the Royal Free London Innovation and Intelligent Automation team. He is also a National Medical Director’s Fellow working at NHSE. He has a real interest in decision support systems as applied to healthcare and the use of real-world healthcare data as a driver of transformational change. His motivation for the CMIO role is a belief that proper utilisation of existing digital services and adoption of new technologies are crucial to help meet the growing demands on the health service and deliver a future of better care.

Rob studied medicine at the University of Oxford, following which he was appointed as an academic foundation doctor in the North Central and East London deanery.

Jack Stilgoe is a professor in the Science and Technology Studies department at University College London. His research and teaching focuses on the governance of emerging technologies. He is currently principal investigator of the Driverless Futures? project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. In 2013 he worked with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to create a framework for responsible innovation. He has been an expert adviser to the European Commission, the Ada Lovelace Institute, the Wellcome Trust and various parts of the UK government. He is on the advisory board of the UKRI Trustworthy Autonomous Systems Hub and he has been a fellow of the Turing Institute since 2018. His most recent books are Experiment Earth: Responsible innovation in geoengineering (Routledge 2015) and Who’s Driving Innovation? New technologies and the collaborative state (Palgrave 2020).

Dr Ronan Cummins, Director of AI Research at ieso, is a computer scientist specialising in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. A former Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, he is a highly published academic, and has spoken about natural language processing and information retrieval at a number of premier conferences. Joining ieso in 2017, Ronan has led a number of projects within the R&D team focusing on uncovering important clinical events within ieso’s unique conversational dataset in order to improve the treatment of mental health conditions.

Sigal Hachlili Dwyer –  Director of AI, Data & Digital Innovation at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s Health Partners and the AI Centre for Value Based Healthcare. 

Sigal aims to harness rich health analytics, data science, digital innovation and cutting-edge technology to develop scalable solutions that enhance healthcare outcomes for patients, families and staff across the NHS.

Sigal has over 20 years’ experience in roles at national and international organisations across digital, AI and data disciplines – delivering business transformation and growth, innovation and service delivery. She is passionate about helping organisations to harness digital and data to achieve their goals for future sustainability, climate positive, health and social value. 

Kiran Patel is Chief Medical Officer, Deputy CEO and Consultant cardiologist at University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire. He came to that role in 2019 after 6 years as Medical Director for NHS England (West Midlands). He graduated from Kings College, Cambridge University in 1993 and has been a practising Consultant Cardiologist 2005 and continues to practice despite a busy managerial role. He was appointed an Honorary Professor at Warwick and Coventry Universities in 2018. He was also clinical lead for the Coventry and Warwickshire ICS (2019-22).

As a senior NHS leader he has managed significant transformational change not only in cardiac services but as Medical Director for the West Midlands (2014-19), Clinical Director at West Midlands Strategic Health authority (2009-11) and Medical Director for West Mercia PCT Cluster (2011-13).

In the voluntary sector, he has been Chair of trustees to the South Asian Health Foundation charity (which he founded in 1999) since inception. He was also a trustee for 3 terms at the UK Health forum from 2003-12. He is a mentor for the Social Mobility Foundation which encourages and mentors students from deprived communities into the healthcare sector and further education.

In healthcare policy and strategy, he has worked with NICE, the Royal Colleges and the Department of Health for over two decades. He has published papers and books and lectured widely on a national and international scale, not only in the field of cardiology, but more widely on social determinants and healthcare systems and strategy. Such expertise gleaned from both the NHS and voluntary sectors, led to him advising the Public Health Foundation of India on developing healthcare systems in 2009-10 and he also co-authored the UK Ministerial briefing for the UN Summit on non communicable disease in 2011. He served 9 years as a Non Executive Director on the board of the BMJ group to drive globalisation of education and training to achieve its mission of a healthier world (2012-2021). As part of that global health system work he recently advised the Thai government and is currently advising the Indonesian government on health system strengthening. He was recognised in the HSJ Top 100 leaders in 2014 and in the HSJ Tope 50 BAME leaders in the same year. In 2022 he led his trust to win the HSJ Health Inequalities and Innovation award for work on reducing inequalities in restoration of NHS services following the pandemic. In 2021 he was recognised at the 37th most influential UK Asian in the GG2 powerlist.

An impressive random fact is that he prescribed the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine outside of a clinical trial on that amazing day of December 8th 2020.

In his spare time, he loves sport – indeed, he has moved from cricket, which he played to a high standard, to football. He holds a season ticket for West Bromwich Albion FC and when not running half-marathons he enjoys attending most WBA home matches with his wife and 4 daughters!

Maxine Mackintosh is the co-founder of One HealthTech – a community which champions and supports underrepresented groups in health innovation, particularly women, to be the future leaders in healthcare. She does this alongside a data science PhD in London where she is mining medical records for new predictors of dementia. Her professional work has led her to the Royal Society, Roche, L’Oreal, Department for International Development, and NHS England. She is part of a number of communities and committees including the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers, the British Computer Society and the Digital Health Forum. She really really likes fancy dress.

Nick is a board director and leads the digital transformation programme at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

He is an engineer by training, having started his career working in Formula 1 for McLaren in digital simulation where he supported Lewis Hamilton to win his first world championship. He worked in operational implementation for 11 years, as a Partner at Newton, working with front line staff to implement new care pathways and care models to improve patient outcomes.

Nick joined UHB in January 2020 and has since worked with clinical teams to deploy innovative care pathways, utilising new and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, that improve quality and access to care for the population of Birmingham and Solihull.

Recently implemented projects include: AI powered skin cancer pathway, community diagnostic hub for ophthalmic care, Trust wide digital communication platform, AI enabled radiotherapy planning, synchronous digital diagnostics for urgent care, virtual wards for COPD care, digital otoscopy for ear and nose care, AI for breast screening, platform for collaborative and distributed care.

Dr Nisha Sharma is Director of the breast screening programme for Leeds and Wakefield and a consultant breast radiologist.

She is active in research and audit and is recognised as a national and international speaker. She developed the UK breast screening guidelines on how to manage high-risk lesions. She is also involved in a number of trials looking to minimise over-treatment and also support risk-adapted screening. She is actively involved in studies involving artificial intelligence. She sits on a large number of committees and is audit lead for the British Society of Radiology.

Andrew is lead healthcare partner at AlbionVC, a UK-focused venture capital investor managing approximately £1bn. A former neurosurgeon, he focuses on medical technologies and technology-enabled services to the healthcare and life-science sectors. He has invested in sectors ranging from digital health, diagnostics and imaging, machine learning applications and therapeutics, including cell and gene therapies. Prior to joining Albion he specialised in healthcare strategy at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

Dr Kieran Walsh is Clinical Director at BMJ. He is the clinical lead of the medical education and clinical decision support resources at BMJ. He has a vast amount of experience in online medical education, clinical decision support, face-to-face delivery of medical education, and both summative and formative assessment. He has experience in using all of these in programmes to strengthen health systems. He is Adjunct Associate Professor in Teaching and Research at Monash University. He has published over 200 papers in the biomedical literature and has written four books on medical education.

Allison Gardner is an expert in AI and Data Ethics with interests in health technology, algorithmic bias, HCI, diversity and inclusion. Allison works for the AI Multi-agency Advisory Service with NICE addressing cross-regulatory policy. She is an experienced educator and is an (Hon) Senior Research Fellow at Keele University. She co-founded Women Leading in AI and is CEO of AI Aware Ltd. Allison sits on a number of standards committees including ISO/IEC SC42 UK National and CEN-CENELEC JTC21 as a ForHumanity Fellow. Allison is a renowned speaker on AI ethics, with several media appearances including as a TEDx speaker.

Alison is the Data and Privacy Specialist at the Health Research Authority (HRA). She advises the HRA and helps manage its contributions to a range of projects focussed on data access and use in research, as well as data governance and policy development involving issues around informational privacy and patient confidentiality. One area of recent highlight has been in the development of resources to help researchers develop AI and data-driven technologies for healthcare purposes. Alison sits on several national expert advisory panels in this context, working alongside other regulators and key stakeholders.  

Previously at the University of Southampton, she headed up the Research Integrity and Governance team. She had responsibility for oversight of processes and policies involving research ethics, governance, and compliance (clinical and non-clinical), as well as being institutional lead for the UK reproducibility network. She was also responsible for implementing the introduction of GDPR at the University. 

She has written extensively on anonymisation and privacy,  while also working on international research projects: Data Pitch, and Super-Identity. In addition, she has trained organisations and researchers on data ethics and data governance.   

Her background is as a senior compliance/regulatory lawyer and data protection specialist, with an interdisciplinary PhD in IT, Data Protection and Privacy Laws, combined with training in Data Science.

Professor Shafi Ahmed is a world renowned, multi award winning surgeon, teacher, futurist, innovator and entrepreneur. He is a 3x TEDx speaker and has delivered over 300 keynotes in 35 countries.

After studying  medicine at Kings College Hospital Medical School London, he completed his surgical training in London. He is currently a Laparoscopic Colorectal surgeon at The Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals.

He has received multiple Professorships and Honorary doctorates and was a Nobel Peace prize nominee in 2020 for his humanitarian work in conflict zones. In 2018 he was awarded the Future NHS award for NHS70 by Members of Parliament. In 2017 he was the top British Asian star in Tech. He was also the British Bangladeshi of the Year 2017

He is currently a member of the NHS Assembly advising on the NHS long term plan and has previously been an advisor to the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health.  He is currently the Vodafone Connected Health 5G Ambassador for the UK and sits on the board of The Centre for Health, a joint venture with Vodafone and Deloitte. He sits on the board of advisors at Abilitii in Saudi Arabia building health for Vision 2030 and is a Non Exec Director at the Considered, a global health marketing agency.

He is the Co Founder of Medical Realities, an award winning XR medical education company and was appointed as the Chief Medical Metaverse Officer at AIMEDIS who are building the world’s first health metaverse. He also cofounded GIANT Health the largest medtech conference in the UK. 

As a previous Associate Dean at Barts Medical School, Shafi disrupting the traditional medical school curriculum by launching the Barts X Medicine Programme in 2015. Shafi has embedded future technologies and entrepreneurship into the medical school. 

As an advocate for equality and a passion for humanitarian projects, he recently launched the Shafi Ahmed Foundation International. This foundation aims to provide relief and aid to those in need whilst promoting access to medical training.

Luca Martial is a Senior Data Scientist at John Snow Labs, improving the Spark NLP for Healthcare library and delivering hands-on projects in Healthcare and Life Sciences. He also leads product development for the NLP Test library, an open-source responsible AI framework that ensures the delivery of safe and effective models into production.

Sarah Porter has launched 21 b2b and b2c technology products in 11 countries since 1996 and has a renowned reputation for taking ideas from concept to market with subsequent significant growth globally. 

Emerging tech / AI / Medtech / Singularity / existentialism is where her core experience lies and she has over 20 years of commercial experience.

As a board executive for i2i events (parent company The Guardian Media Group / Apax – Ascential – previously Top Right Group) with the specific remit to rapidly grow the business whilst leveraging operational costs and prepare pre IPO. She sat on the i2i mergers and acquisitions committee identifying, analysing and approaching target businesses and accelerated growth by 22% within 12 months.

Achievements include the launch and acquisition of Money2020 – a leading fintech product. This included negotiation, 3 stage due diligence, its subsequent integration, and the long term geo-adaption into a global portfolio worth over $40m. The launch of World Retail Congress in 10 countries, the re-launch of Cannes Lions festival.

Sarah is a regular keynote speaker on start-ups, business and women / equality related issues and is an ambassador for the Royal Marsden where she champions the use of AI tech in oncology advances.

Vishnu Chandrabalan is a Consultant Surgeon and Head of Data Science at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTH). He has worked in the NHS for 2 decades gathering a wealth of experience both as a clinician and as a technology enthusiast. Having learnt BASIC (and a little COBOL and Fortran) in the summer of 1991, he has retained a passion for technology in general and programming in particular. He has focussed his recent efforts as lead architect on building a cloud-native, scalable, collaborative, data analytics platform at LTH. He has co-led Lancashire and South Cumbria in a successful £10m bid for a NW Secure Data Environment in a 3-ICS coalition. He also leads LTH’s large-scale data harmonisation into OMOP with support from HDRUK and has a strong interest in capacity-building within the NHS for data science, ML and AI. He is most comfortable writing buggy code in Python and has not enjoyed writing this short biography in the third-person.

Laura is a seasoned news reporter who for the last five years has specialised in health and science stories, appearing across television, radio, online and social media. She started as an apprentice but is now a key member of the BBC News network news team covering stories in the UK and abroad. She reports on everything from coronavirus to climate change; from space exploration to mental health and the latest medical research. Laura is also a STEM ambassador, working to inspire teenagers to seek out careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Clíodhna’s expertise is in AI and digital technologies. She is leading delivery of the multi-agency advisory service project, which brings regulatory and health technology assessment partners together to provide joined-up guidance and advice to developers and adopters of these technologies, and has developed the AI & Digital Regulations Service (www.digitalregulations.innovation.nhs.uk). She has also served on funding award panels for AI technologies, and chaired the award panels for round 3 of the NHS AI Award last year (phases 3-4). Previously, Clíodhna worked on a broad range of national innovation programmes, including real-world evaluation and led the development of the NHS Innovation Service (www.innovation.nhs.uk), a ‘single front door’ for innovators to the NHS. Her health-innovation policy work is informed by her frontline experience, as she worked in mental health and acute services within the UK and in supply chain operations in South Africa.

Dr. Amrita Kumar has been recently named 2020 Top 50 Innovator in UK for leading innovation within the NHS transforming healthcare and research with the use if AI technology. She was appointed as a substantive Consultant Radiologist at Frimley Health in 2013 with a subspecialist interest in breast cancer screening.

She has a keen interest in Artificial Intelligence and has set up trust wide research collaboration to implement a digital enabled AI infrastructure, as well as implement novel AI software for improved detection of cancer.

Ultimately, her aim is to have a positive social impact on cancer screening policy and practice within the NHS integrated with AI, working in conjunction with various stakeholders with a mission statement of patient-focused healthcare. She has also been appointed at the British Institute of Radiology National Clinical Intelligence & Informatics Committee to look at the national integration and implementation of AI into clinical practice.

Vineet works as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Orthopaedics at Luton & Dunstable NHS University Hospital, UK. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His qualification included MBBS. MS(Trauma)  FRCS(Orth), MD (Ortho Research.) UCL.

He has been instrumental in creating the website whichorthopaedicimplant.com which will perform Automated Identification of Make & Model (Brand) of Orthopaedic Implants using AI. He is also creating Worlds first Open-source benchmark X-ray dataset of all globally used Orthopaedic implants. 

He has done a fellowship in Limb reconstruction at the St Georges NHS University Hospital, London and a second in Management of Complex trauma at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He was awarded a MD (Bio-Med Eng.) at IOMS, UCL in 2018 and published work on formation of Extra cortical Bone to enhance Osteointegration of endoprosthesis. 

Rhodri Davies is a cardiologist and associate clinical professor of machine learning and cardiac imaging at University College London, Barts Heart Centre, and University Hospital of Wales. Rhodri’s background is in computer science and having completed his PhD in machine learning, he completed clinical training in cardiology, with subspecialist interests in cardiac MR and echocardiography. His research aims to use advanced machine learning techniques to improve the interpretation of cardiac imaging and deploy these methods in routine clinical care.

Ana Ribeiro completed her degree in Nuclear Medicine (BSc (Hons)) at the ESS Porto in Portugal, followed by a PgDip and MRes at City University of London and is currently undertaking a PhD at Erasmus MC. Her previous research addressed patients’ awareness and perception of radiation exposure during bone and PET/CT scanning. This led to a number of articles and presentations at International conferences. She has also contributed to other imaging research studies in the fields of Nuclear Medicine and Radiology. Ana’s current research is looking at understanding patients and healthcare professionals’ views on independent patient access to their imaging records – how access to a digital platform could better support and engage patients to become active users of digital health services – in line with changes to current patient record systems across the UK and Internationally.

As Transformation lead at the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Imaging Hub, together with the two directors, she oversees a diverse team together with the Hub research portfolio and provides regulatory and governance management to the Hub data driven projects in the field of imaging and AI.

Alexander is a research fellow currently completing his PhD in the evaluation and integration of AI in healthcare as part of the COLO-SPEED colorectal cancer research network. He is also a colorectal surgery registrar as well as an Army Reserve Medical Officer with clinical interests in advanced endoscopy and surgery in remote, rural, and austere environments, as well as broader interests in process efficiency and ergonomics. He is keen to explore the ways in which it is possible to use AI to improve workflows, outcomes, and safety, and simplify the complex wherever possible.

Justyna is the founder of Joii, a period care and menstrual health brand. Her company is developing an app designed to support those with menstrual health issues and will be launching with an initial focus on endometriosis. Following the launch, it will evolve into a tool to support other menstrual conditions and allow any user to get a better understanding of their menstrual cycle and flow. Joii is using AI, including OpenCV to analyse vaginal bleeding and improve diagnosis.

Carlon Fitzpatrick is a Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in medical and surgical devices. Carlon read Medicine at St George’s University, Grenada West Indies, graduating as a Gold Honour Humanism Society member in 2010. Carlon then worked for DepuySynthes (Johnson and Johnson) Orthopaedics and biomaterials from 2010-2014 winning national sales awards in 2012 and 2013.  He developed specialist knowledge in these areas, driving uptake and adoption of Trauma innovation and biomaterials for use in Trauma Surgery. Carlon is passionate about improving patient safety and setting new standards for tracking and tracing of medical devices within the healthcare market. 

Kanwal is the founder of Metalynx, a startup building software for the assessment of healthcare AI products. Kanwal has been working in medical imaging since finishing her PhD in 2007, first in developing novel algorithms then in commercialising these through industry and startups. She founded Metalynx with the aim of accelerating adoption of safe and robust AI, using her understanding the technical challenges involved in development – and how to test for these. Metalynx allows non-technical healthcare providers to rapidly evaluate and test radiology AI products in an independent manner, helping buyers to identify products that offer greatest clinical benefit.

Dr Sarah Blake is a cardiology registrar at St Thomas’ Hospital, specialising in congenital heart disease and cardiac imaging. She completed her medical training in Bristol in 2012 and obtained a PhD from the University of Liverpool in 2020. She is the Women in Cardiology Representative for the BJCA and is one of the first cohort of Clinical AI fellows, where she is deploying AI software to aid the interpretation of medical imaging. 

Tamás Petrovics is Co-founder & CEO of the healthtech start-up XUND, based in Vienna with offices in Budapest and London. There, he is responsible for corporate strategy. Tamás is committed to making XUND’s vision of the digital patient journey a reality and represents the company externally. Prior to co-founding XUND, he was a Management Consultant at McKinsey & Company. He worked on projects in Europe, America, and Asia. His focus was on restructuring and growth in insurance, pharma, and basic materials. 

Dr Rizwan Malik is a Radiologist at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. He has clinical interests in Chest and Nuclear Medical Radiology, and in particular, interest in Healthcare Informatics and the potential of AI to support clinicians and patients. Rizwan studied medicine in Cambridge and London before qualifying as a Radiologist and joining the Trust in 2006. He has held a number of increasingly senior roles at the organisation, where he became Divisional Medical Director in 2020, and was, until recently, the regional Clinical Lead for PACS for Greater Manchester. Dr Malik also provides consultancy that advises the NHS and vendors on transformation and innovation, with a focus on imaging and AI.

Ian is actively involved in the NIHR i4i Programme, SBRI Healthcare and now the AI in Health and Care Award along with Medtech SME engagement, managing a portfolio of funded projects and the NIHR Innovation Observatory contract. A DPhil in chemistry led to Ian becoming a Principal Scientist at Kodak European R&D, followed by 9 years at GE Healthcare leading the Discovery portfolio for neurological molecular imaging. Ian is a (co-)inventor on 38 patent applications, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a member of UKRI Peer Review College and the External Review Board for CPI Photonics.

Neil Daly is an entrepreneur and founder of Skin Analytics, a company that is developing advanced image processing techniques to assess skin lesions for skin cancer. He is also currently a fellow at NHS National Innovation Accelerator, where he has been since March 2019. Prior to his current roles, Neil worked as a Director at the GSMA, where he was responsible for supporting the creation of the mobile banking industry. Neil also worked as a consultant at Accenture for four years, where he worked on various strategy and technology consulting projects for large blue-chip ICT clients such as Vodafone, British Telecom, and Virgin Media.

Neil received an Executive MBA in Entrepreneurship from the London Business School in 2011 and a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematical Sciences from The University of Western Australia in 2003. 

Blaise Thomson is the founder and CEO of Bitfount, a federated machine learning and analytics platform. He was the founder and CEO of VocalIQ, which he sold to Apple in 2015, subsequently leading their Cambridge, UK engineering office and holding the role of Chief Architect for Siri Understanding. Blaise holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, where he was also a Research Fellow, and is an Honorary Fellow at the Cambridge Judge Business School.

From Kabul to Geneva to Palo Alto, Joel K. Myhre has been honored over his two decades of public policy and advanced ICT experience to help bring advanced humanitarian technology innovations to civil society actors across the Pacific Rim, Europe, North America, Africa, & Central Asia. He has worked with a broad swath of Public Health, Humanitarian and Disaster Response entities, in addition to UN and US DoD engagements throughout the Pacific Rim and Europe. Mr. Myhre’s technical geospatial endeavours include Membership in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), co-chair of the UN Information Management Working Group for GIS (Geneva), and advisor to both the WHO EOC-NET and the ad hoc WHO Advisory Group on Mass Gatherings. Recent technology forays from Silicon Valley to Geneva have incorporated Artificial Intelligence, space based observational innovations, and broad stakeholder engagements to advance the US Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Gabriel completed a degree in modern history at Oxford before studying medicine at Cambridge University. During his time at Cambridge, he founded Polygeia, a global health think tank that has expanded internationally to Hong Kong, New York and Ibadan. Once qualified, he completed foundation and internal medical training in London, including rotations in respiratory medicine.

During training, he completed a Diploma in Tropical Medicine in East Africa and spent six months working for the PRevention Of LIver Fibrosis and Cancer in Africa (PROLIFICA) research group in The Gambia. He started working for Cambridge Respiratory Innovations (CRI) in August 2022 as Head of Clinical Operations. CRI’s novel respiratory device is called N-Tidal and Gabriel is passionate about its capacity to improve existing diagnostic pathways.

Dr Chris Carlin is Consultant Physician and NRS Senior Investigator in Sleep and Respiratory Medicine, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.  He runs a patient-focused realistic medicine-based respiratory medicine service, research, innovation and training programme in the West of Scotland.  Primary interests are implementation and evaluation of digital technology innovations, novel physiology endpoints and design of new service models for COPD, respiratory failure and sleep disorders. He is principle investigator for the InnovateUK and ResMed IIR funded DYNAMIC digital health technology catalyst project which is developing continuous AI-powered predictive modelling to enhance COPD care, the associated RECEIVER clinical trial, the follow-on scale up DYNAMIC-SCOT project and CSO-funded CARP (COVID-19 advanced respiratory physiology platform) project.

Adam is Director of Innovation at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, the largest healthcare provider in the UK, having previously undertaken a range of operational, strategic and consulting roles in and around the National Health Service. Rajesh is passionate about empowering patients living with kidney disease by demystifying many aspects of their care including dialysis access procedures and renal trasplantation and support their families by improving knowledge about donation from live and deceased donors. He is an experienced consultant within the NHS with knowledge in healthcare management, clinical research, and healthcare information technology. He leads many clinical and technology-based innovations to empowering patients living with chronic diseases such as kidney failure, demystifying their care. He leads research projects to validate digital innovation-based solutions and facilitate integration of many technologies into healthcare. He is a member of advisory boards and as a key opinion leader, guides development of healthcare innovations across the globe.

I am a Consultant Obstetrician subspecialising in Fetal Medicine and abnormally adherent and invasive placenta (placenta accreta spectrum disorder). I graduated in Clinical Medicine from the University of Oxford and trained within the Oxford Deanery. During my training I completed a Doctorate in Obstetric Ultrasound here in the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

I have a weekly high risk obstetrics ante-natal clinic at the Horton Hospital in Banbury and also lead the FMU Placenta Clinic which provides a tertiary referral service to the Thames Valley region and beyond.

I co-authored both national (RCOG) and international (FIGO) guidelines for the classification, diagnosis and management of abnormally invasive placenta (AIP: now called placenta accreta spectrum, PAS) and am the lead author on the IS-AIP evidence based guideline for intra-partum management of AIP. I am also working with NHS England to develop a national network for the improved management of PAS. I represent the UK to and am elected Vice Chair of the International Society for PAS (IS-PAS) and an elected representative to the European Placenta Group Committee.

Daniel Kahneman is an Israeli-American psychologist notable for his work in behavioural economics—the psychology of judgement and decision-making— for which he was awarded the 2002 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. His empirical findings challenged assumptions about the nature of human rationality prevailing in modern economic theory.

Alongside Amos Tversky and others, Kahneman established a cognitive basis for the common human errors that arise due to heuristics and biases, and developed prospect theory.

He is professor emeritus of psychology and public affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School. Kahneman is a founding partner of TGG Group, a business and philanthropy consulting company. He is married to Royal Society Fellow Anne Treisman.

Dr Simon Eccles is the national Chief Clinical Information Officer for Health and Care, and head of profession for CCIOs. As part of the newly established NHSE/I Transformation Directorate, Simon has responsibility for clinical programmes including digital primary care, the digital transformation of screening, and enhancing clinical safety.

Simon was previously the national Medical Director in Connecting for Health. He was the Clinical Director for Urgent Emergency Care for NHS London and SRO for urgent emergency care in South East London.  Simon was an early graduate of the major project Leadership Academy at the Said Business School and still practices emergency medicine as a Consultant at St Thomas’s hospital, London.

Danny is the AI Clinical Lead at the Guy’s Cancer Centre, which is partnering with the newly established AI Evaluation Unit at the King’s Technology Evaluation Centre (KiTEC), King’s College London, on the clinical evaluation of AI technology in cancer care.

Danny has formerly held posts as Director of Public health for the London Borough of Lewisham and the City of Newcastle, and as Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology and Health Services Research at Newcastle University and Dundee University. Danny has developed national clinical guidelines for the NHS in Scotland, conducted large randomised trials, and developed Patient Reported Outcome measures recommended by the US FDA, used with patients across the NHS in England and throughout the world. 

Pearse Keane is Professor of Artificial Medical Intelligence at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, and a consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He is originally from Ireland and received his medical degree from University College Dublin (UCD), graduating in 2002. 

In 2016, he initiated a formal collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital and Google DeepMind, with the aim of developing artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for the earlier detection and treatment of retinal disease. In August 2018, the first results of this collaboration were published in the journal, Nature Medicine. In May 2020, he jointly led work, again published in Nature Medicine, to develop an early warning system for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), by far the commonest cause of blindness in many countries.

Eleonora is Head of Collaborations for the NHS AI Lab. Her work focuses on communicating and engaging with health and care professionals, the public and industry to support and share the work of the NHS AI Lab and the potential of AI.

Prior to joining the NHS Transformation Directorate, she was Director of Research at Reform think tank, where she co-authored papers on AI in the NHS, the value of healthcare data, commercial models in healthcare and the regulation of data-driven technologies.

She is a member of the British Standards Institution’s Committee on Artificial Intelligence and the London Hub Lead of One HealthTech, a grassroots community which seeks to promote diversity in healthtech.

Professor Yossi Sheffi is Director of the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL), and Director and Founder of the Master of Engineering in Logistics Program. He is a faculty member of the MIT Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, as well as the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society. He is a global expert in systems optimization, risk analysis and supply chain management. Additionally, he is the author of a text book Urban Transportation Networks: Equilibrium Analysis with Mathematical Programming Methods (1985) and six management books: The Resilient Enterprise: Overcoming Vulnerability for Competitive Advantage (2005); Logistics Clusters: Delivering Value and Driving Growth (2012); The Power of Resilience: How the Best Companies Manage the Unexpected (2015); ); Balancing Green: When to Embrace Sustainability in Business (and When Not to) (2018); and The New (Ab)Normal: Reshaping Business and Supply Chain Strategy Beyond Covid-19 (2020). His sixth and latest book, is A Shot in the Arm: How Science, Engineering, and Supply Chains Converged to Vaccinate the World (October 2021). 

Under his leadership, the MIT CTL has launched many educational, research, and industry/government outreach programs, including the MIT Master of Engineering in Logistics program in 1998, the MIT Master of Applied Sciences in Supply Chain Management, and the MIT on-line offering the MITx MicroMasters program in supply chain management. (Launched in 2016, it has enrolled more than 350,000 learners in 196 countries.)

Prof. Sheffi launched an international expansion of MIT CTL, establishing academic logistics and supply chain management centers around the world. These include the MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program in Spain launched in 2003, the Center for Latin America Logistics Innovation launched in 2007, the Malaysia Center for Supply Chain Innovation launched in 2012, the Luxembourg Center of Logistics launched in 2015, and the Ningbo Supply Chain Institute in China launched in 2016. Collectively these centers operate as the MIT Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence (SCALE) global network which he leads.

Outside academia, Dr. Sheffi has consulted with numerous governments and leading manufacturing, retail and transportation enterprises all over the world. James Reed is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Chief Clinical Information Officer at Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS FT. He was first appointed as CCIO in 2013 and during this time has overseen a range of digital projects including BSMHFT’s role in the Global Digital Exemplar Programme. He is also clinical lead for the West Midlands Shared Care Record programme.

Dr. Sunir Gohil is the principal data scientist for GSK consumer healthcare research and development. He is also a medical doctor having trained at Imperial College Healthcare Trust in London and an expert in computer science. Sunir currently leads a team of data scientists at GSK focused on consumer healthcare product development for research and development opportunities, and to make help make everyday health better for the consumer. In 2016 Sunir joined Babylon Health in London to health lead clinical Ai R&D, developing patient-facing solutions for symptom checking and risk assessments in primary care.

He now focuses on consumer healthcare and over-the-counter health product development. In particular, his focus is on natural language processing, forecasting, and implementing novel uses of data to better everyday health for consumers and patients.

Cat leads the international product team for Flatiron Health in Japan, UK and Germany, expanding the reach and breadth of high-quality, curated real-world data. Prior to this role, Cat was Flatiron’s VP of Engineering for Real-World Evidence, leading teams scaling data solutions.

She has over 15 years experience as an engineer, data scientist, and product leader in the health technology space. Cat brings her unique background of math, computer science, product management, and theatre to problem solving in health care. Prior to joining Flatiron in 2014, she was an early engineer at data-focused startups Mortar Data and Optum Humedica.

Cat is a frequent presenter on technology in healthcare, leadership best practices, and diversity in recruiting at forums such as CTO Summit, CTO Fellowship Fireside Chat, Health Datapalooza.

She dreams of being a person whose entire job is giving Yoda-like advice to others.

Chris is a data scientist and developer at TPP and holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Manchester. Chris leads TPP’s work in the use of EHR data to support analytics, research, and surveillance. He has previously been recognised by the Health Service Journal (HSJ) as one of the top 50 innovators in UK healthcare.

In recent years, Chris led the TPP team which contributed to the development of the national Electronic Frailty Index (eFI). He is involved in a number of national research programmes, including in cancer survivorship and antimicrobial resistance. He works closely with the UK Biobank team, helping to combine EHR data with genomic information to support their vital research.

Chris also has a strong interest in clinical terminologies and open standards for interoperability. He has spoken on many digital health topics at large conferences, including at both SNOMED CT Expos and at Health Datapalooza in the US. He is an active researcher and has co-authored a number of academic papers in prominent journals, such as Science.

As part of TPP’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Chris has been a key member of the OpenSAFELY collaborative and has helped build a large, secure platform for national Covid-19 research. He is also leading TPP’s support of the PRINCIPLE trial at the University of Oxford, aiming to discover whether selected treatments can improve Covid-19 outcomes.

Tim is a tech entrepreneur from the Cambridge Cluster, passionate about using AI to accelerate treatments for rare diseases. He is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive of Healx, the mission-driven technology company pioneering the next wave of drug discovery in order to bring novel, effective treatments to rare disease patients around the world. In this role, Tim has been listed in The Sunday Times Maserati 100 list of entrepreneurs in 2019, was featured in The Telegraph’s Tech 100 in 2019, and was named one of In Vivo’s 30 Rising Leaders in the Life Sciences in 2020. He was also named as ‘One to watch’ in The Telegraph’s Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders in 2020.

Tim is also the Co-Founder and Trustee of the Cambridge Rare Disease Network (CRDN). Prior to Healx and CRDN, he obtained his PhD at the University of Cambridge in the field of Biophysics and Neuroscience, developing nanobody technology for Parkinson’s disease. Before moving to Cambridge UK, Tim obtained an MEng in Bio- and Chemical-Engineering from the University of Brussels.

Prof. Dr. med. Mathias Goyen is currently the Chief Medical Officer EMEA for GE Healthcare, a $17 billion division of General Electric. Mathias is responsible for leading GE Healthcare’s medical, clinical and evidence generation strategies for product modalities in Europe, the Middle East & Africa. Together with his team he provides leadership in healthcare economics and outcomes research and comparative effectiveness research to develop customer value propositions for new and existing products

Mathias began his career as a diagnostic Radiologist working at Essen and Hamburg/Germany. He was appointed Professor of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Hamburg/Germany in 2010. Mathias’ previous experience also includes 5 years as Managing Director of UKE Consult and Management GmbH, a subsidiary of the University Medical Center Hamburg where he was responsible for the overall consulting and foreign business of the University Medical Center Hamburg. Together with the leadership team of the hospital Mathias established a Comprehensive Cancer Center linking clinical medicine with new oncologic research strategies.

Mathias holds a medical degree (MD) from the University of Bochum, Germany. He has been secretary general of the German Chinese Society of Medicine, Berlin, from 2005 – 2019.

Alastair Denniston is a consultant ophthalmologist (eye specialist) at University Hospitals Birmingham leading research into the use of health data research and artificial intelligence to improve patient care in the ‘real world’. He is Professor at the University of Birmingham, and part of the Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital/UCL.

Alastair has particular interest in how we can ensure that the innovation within the broad field of ‘artificial intelligence’ is translated efficiently but safely to benefit patients. This includes improving the reporting standards of trials (CONSORT-AI and SPIRIT-AI), helping define the regulatory framework for AI in healthcare, and working with HDRUK and other relevant organisations to support the best of these innovations right through the implementation pathway.

He is Director of INSIGHT, the HDRUK Health Data Research Hub for Eye Health which is focused on eye disease and its application to wider health, including diabetes and dementia. It will use anonymised large-scale data and advanced analytics, including artificial intelligence, to develop new insights in disease detection, diagnosis, treatments and personalised healthcare.

Dr Xiao Liu is a specialty trainee in ophthalmology in the West Midlands Deanery and a clinical researcher at the Academic Unit of Ophthalmology, Institute of Inflammation and Ageing, University of Birmingham and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

Her doctoral research is around the validation of instrument-based technologies for detecting and quantifying inflammation in the eye. She is working with Professor Alastair Denniston’s team to develop a new technique based on optical coherence tomography (OCT), a non-invasive retinal imaging device, for the assessment of vitreous inflammation in uveitis.

Dr Liu has particular interests in applications of machine learning in healthcare. Her work is based around diagnostic test evaluation (including machine learning algorithms as tests) and improving reporting standards for machine learning interventions in clinical studies. She co-led the SPIRIT-AI and CONSORT-AI initiative, new international standards for reporting of clinical trials.

She has a number of advisory roles, including as a member of the WHO/ITU Working Group for Regulatory Considerations for AI in Health and as a member of the NHS AI Lab Evaluation Advisory Group for the AI in Health and Care Award. Dr Liu is also an honorary research fellow under the Artificial Intelligence hub at Moorfields Eye Hospital Reading Centre in London and with INSIGHT, the HDR UK data hub for eye health.

Currently working as a Consultant Occupational Health Physician, Abeyna is the main driving force behind Medic Footprints.

Her bespoke and diverse career pathway has taken her through surgical training to trauma in South Africa, BBC media training, NHS Clinical Entrepreneur, NHS Leadership Academy, Black British Business Awards Finalist, multiple award winner in Occupational Health and more.

In addition to nurturing and supporting the wellbeing of an international community, she works closely with organisations looking to engage with doctors with a specialist interest in recruitment.

In her spare time she loves to travel, is active in bouldering and is a classically trained musician with a passion for performing music of our current times!

Nipun Jain is the Director of Medical IT and Data Enablement for the International region at AstraZeneca. He is passionate about the role of technology in improving people’s lives, and his work at AstraZeneca focusses heavily on digital health. His objective is to leverage the scale, reach and expertise of AstraZeneca, coupled with innovative technology solutions from its partners, to provide accessible, affordable and high quality healthcare to patients across the world.

Under the aegis of A.Catalyst Network, he has led and supported key health tech partnerships for the company, partnered with local stakeholders to establish health innovation hubs in emerging markets, and delivered award-winning solutions improving patient outcomes. Artificial Intelligence is a key area of interest for Nipun, where he has both academic interest as well as experience in finding real world applications in corporate environments and healthcare systems.

Became a Solution Architect and Project Manager for European projects, supporting Product Lifecycle Management and Customer Relationship Management. When Cerner Corporation acquired Siemens Health Services business unit, he moved to new role as the Lead of Consulting Team. He is currently the Deputy Director of Information Systems and Technologies at Luz Saúde Group and the Head of Information Systems at all units (Hospital da Luz Lisboa, Hospital da Luz Oeiras, Hospital da Luz Clínica de Odivelas, Hospital da Luz Clínica de Amadora, Hospital da Luz Torres and Hospital Beatriz Angelo).

Dame Lesley Regan is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Imperial College’s St Mary’s Hospital Campus, and Honorary Consultant in Gynaecology at the Imperial College NHS Trust. She is also director of Women’s Health Research Centre, PI of the Recurrent Miscarriage Tissue Bank, co-director of the UK Pregnancy Baby Bio Bank, she chairs the Department of Metabolism, Digestion & Reproduction People and Culture Committee (Athena SWAN), and she is a member of the NHS Assembly.

She is also Honorary Secretary of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and the Immediate Past President (2016-2019) of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, only the second woman to ever hold this role and the first in sixty-four years. 

Professor Regan is also Chair of CHARM – the Charity for Research into Miscarriage and Chair of Wellbeing of Women (WoW), the women’s health research charity.

Having graduated from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London, in 1980 Lesley pursued her career at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, where she first became enthused by clinical and laboratory research, completing an MD on miscarriage.  Professor Regan combines her clinical and research work on recurrent miscarriage and uterine fibroids with a passion for communicating to the wider public, writing two successful books on miscarriage and pregnancy for the general reader and presenting a series of eight BBC ‘Horizon’ documentaries. In 2015 she received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from University College London for her contribution to women’s health. Her collaborative approach to women’s health has resulted in her receiving Honorary Fellowships of seven UK specialities and several international Colleges of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Professor Regan was awarded a DBE for services to women’s health in the 2020 New Year’s Honours List.

Martin Christopher has been at the forefront of the development of new thinking in logistics and supply chain management for over thirty years.

His contribution to the theory and practice of logistics and supply chain management is reflected in the many international awards that he has received. His published work is widely cited by other scholars and he has been invited to participate in academic and industry events around the world.

Martin Christopher was one of the first to recognise that the real competition is between supply chains not companies and he has sought to identify ways in which supply chain excellence can be achieved and sustained.

At Cranfield School of Management, one of the worlds premier business schools, Martin Christopher has helped build the Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management into a leading centre of excellence. Under his leadership the centre became one of the foremost focal points for innovative teaching and research in logistics and supply chain management.

Now, after leading the Centre for over twenty years, Martin Christopher has become an Emeritus Professor and has broadened his portfolio of activities in the realm of knowledge creation and dissemination in these critical areas.

Haider is an experienced business leader with over 23 years of management, strategy, sales, delivery and operational experience within healthcare IT. In his role as COO Haider is responsible for internal operations, business development, partnerships and delivery. He also serves as a member of the board of his local university hospital NHS foundation trust, and is a member of the British Standards Institute (BSI) Healthcare Organisation Management committee.

In his work with the BSI Haider has championed the need for an auditable standard for the validation of Artificial Intelligence for use within the health and care ecosystem. Work on this was approved in December 2020 and he chairs a panel which aims to publish a standard in the next 12 months.

Prior to joining Healthinnova Haider served as Vice President and General Manager for Caradigm’s European business and was responsible for leading Caradigm’s growth and operations in Europe. Before this Haider held roles leading global software implementations and driving operational improvements for customers working at Microsoft, GE Healthcare as well as consultancies such as LogicaCMG (now CGI).

Haider holds a BSc in Medical Informatics as well as a Masters in Informatics from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. He is a trained ISO auditor, a Six Sigma BlackBelt and a certified scuba diver.

Rob Turpin joined the British Standards Institution (BSI) in 2001 and is currently Head of Sector for Healthcare in the Knowledge Solutions stream.  He leads on the strategic standardization approach for the role that BSI has in supporting policy, productivity and innovation in the healthcare system.  His key area of focus include medical technology, NHS policy and innovation and population health.  The increased focus on net zero initiatives provides an opportunity to consider ways that standardisation can address challenges within the NHS infrastructure and supply chain.

Previously, Rob has been involved in managing national and international standards development programmes across a variety of subject sectors.  He has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Teesside, UK.

Dr Annabelle Painter is a Clinical fellow: AI & workforce at HEE & the NHS AI lab where she is focusing on preparing the healthcare workforce for the introduction of AI technology.

She is also an NHS GP registrar, a digital health clinical advisor and sits on the Royal Society of Medicine Digital Health council. She studied medicine at Oxford university and has a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. Annabelle previously worked at Babylon Health as an AI Clinician where she specialised in symptom checker chatbots.

Laura is a business director at InSites Consulting, and the lead for Health & Wellbeing insight across Europe. Having spent much of her career focusing on developing insights within healthcare research, she now works with an amazing group of people across a portfolio of Health & Wellbeing clients.  Her aim is to help shape the future of Health & Wellbeing by making consumer centricity an everyday reality for brands in this space. She is passionate about understanding humans! Laura loves working collaboratively to help clients drive global business growth within Health & Wellbeing, by creating empathy and human connection for better commercial impact. Nick Taptiklis, Head of Technology Strategy at Cambridge Cognition 

Nick is Head of Technology Strategy at Cambridge Cognition. He has 20 years software engineering experience, with a background in the translation of academic research into successful commercial products.

Nick joined Cambridge Cognition to launch CANTAB Mobile, an EU & FDA certified dementia screening tool for primary care. Nick went on to lead the development and deployment of mobile and wearable cognitive assessments in the context of pharmaceutical trials.

Since 2016 Nick has co-led R&D at Cambridge Cognition, most notably developing the NeuroVocalixTM platform for automated administration and scoring of voice-based cognitive assessments.

Nick has also been involved in several industry and academic research collaborations exploring novel digital biomarkers related to neurological and psychiatric disease.

Kyle Giddens is a serial entrepreneur and co-founder and CEO of medcase, a global marketplace of on demand clinicians working with global enterprises such as Google and others. Originally from Canada, Kyle currently resides in Tel Aviv with his family.

Ross O’Brien brings 15 years of rich experience in the healthcare industry, mainly focusing on mental health and equity of access for underserved communities and digital innovation. 

Ross recently exited the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) as an Associate Director Innovation and Technology. He also previously had worked as the Service Lead for the Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service. Ross was also the Programme Lead of the London Digital Talking Therapies Programme at Healthy London Partnerships where he worked to establish a digital single point of access and triage tool for all Londoners accessing NHS psychological therapy services. 

In addition to these incredible achievements, he is also a Founder of the UK XR Health Alliance and the Holomedicine Association and was the Lead Author for ‘The Growing Value of XR in Healthcare in the UK’ a report bringing together UK government agencies to create a strategy for UK Immersive Healthcare. Ross holds a Human Rights Masters from the University of London and is a graduate from the Digital Health London Digital Pioneer Fellowship. 

Katie is responsible for the commercial growth of HALO AP, Indica Labs’ first analysis software designed specifically for clinical workflows. Working closely with clinical laboratories, she applies her experience of the clinical market, and pathology workflow optimization to support institutions as they transition away from glass. Katie has held a variety of customer facing roles over the years, entering the digital pathology industry in 2009.

Dr Tran is a medical doctor and world-ranked Al engineer and data scientist. He’s listed in Forbes’s 30 under 30 tech entrepreneurs and The Australian’s top 100 Australian innovators.

Prior to co-founding annalise.ai, he invented IVY, the breakthrough Al model that uses machine learning to assist in selecting the best embryo for IVF treatment.

He’s dedicated to making healthcare more efficient and affordable for patients, through the power of AI and meaningful collaboration with clinicians. At annalise.ai he leads the clinical AI team, developing comprehensive AI solutions, intended to assist clinicians with the interpretation of radiological imaging studies.

Jenny started her career in the NHS as a Graduate Management Trainee, and since then has held a number of operational and strategic roles in the NHS and overseas. Before joining the Accelerator, Jenny was the General Manager for Women’s Services at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.

Jenny has an MBA from the London Business School and a Masters in Healthcare Management from Manchester Business School.

Dr Andrew Soltan is an NIHR Clinical Fellow in Cardiology in the Oxford Denaery and a Clinical Machine Learning researcher at the University of Oxford.

His research applies machine learning techniques to routinely collected Electronic Health Records data for detection and prediction of disease. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Soltan has led the CURIAL programme, rapidly developing and deploying an AI tool to screen patients attending Emergency Departments for infection within one hour of arriving. The evidence base for CURIAL has achieved two publications in The Lancet Digital Health, showing a 26% reduction in time-to-result when piloted at the John Radcliffe Hospital and reduction in missed COVID-19 cases compared to Lateral Flow Testing alone.

Dr Soltan has also worked in industry as Medical Officer at Visulytix, which partnered with Orbis International to make its AI tool for detecting treatable eye disease accessible to doctors in low-resource countries across the world. Since graduating with Distinction in Medicine from the University of Cambridge, Dr Soltan has received awards including an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship and a Translational Research award funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Tom has 30 years experience in the technology sector, the last 12 years in various advanced algorithm processing applications (AI, computer vision, and radar).  Tom is VP of Business Development at Graphcore with a focus on AI in Healthcare..  Tom has been involved in multiple startups, the latest with CogniVue as VP of Marketing and Business Development with a focus on computer vision in consumer and automotive applications.  After CogniVue sold to Freescale in 2015, Tom took on the radar processing products at Freescale/NXP until joining Graphcore in early 2018.  Prior to his time at CogniVue, Tom was one of the founding members of Tundra Semiconductor (which sold to IDT in 2009), a successful semiconductor startup focused on telecommunications infrastructure.  Tom has a B.Sc and PhD in the biological sciences.

Sarah completed her Foundation Programme training in the Oxford Deanery and during this time she continued to pursue her digital health based on her long standing desire to use technology to deliver universal healthcare coverage. She co-developed an app that measured continuous wellbeing in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, using smartphone generated data and machine learning. She also took on her first role at Ufonia where she led the patient acceptability study of Dora, an AI-driven conversational voice agent, in the context of cataract surgery follow up. Sarah continues to help coordinate Ufonia’s stakeholder engagement.

Dr. Matt Curtis (BMedSci BM BS DRCOG DCH MRCGP) is Clinical Advisor with TPP and a GP with the Modality Partnership. He works as a GP and GP trainer in Keighley, West Yorkshire and is interested in how the quality and safety of a consultation is improved by good Information Technology.

Carlos M. Nunez, M.D., was appointed ResMed’s chief medical officer in January 2017. Prior to joining ResMed, he was senior vice president of Medical Affairs at Becton, Dickinson and Company, leading the Office of Science, Medicine and Technology for its largest division. Before that, he was chief medical officer at CareFusion, where he built and led a global team that provided company-wide medical oversight.

From 2000 to 2011, Carlos was chief physician executive at Picis, Inc., an industry-leading medical informatics company that became part of the Optum division of UnitedHealth Group. At Picis/Optum, Carlos provided medical leadership and clinical direction for corporate strategy, marketing, product development, sales, implementation and customer relations for global markets.

Before working in the medtech industry, Carlos was a practicing anaesthesiologist, intensivist and hospitalist; director of critical care research, informatics and analytics; and the Duke University educational affiliation at Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast.

Carlos received his medical doctorate from the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he also completed his postgraduate training in anaesthesiology, critical care medicine and clinical research.

David Harrison MD, DSc, FRCPath, FRCPEd, FRCSEd graduated from the University of Edinburgh and trained as a histopathologist. Whilst clinically specializing in liver and kidney, his research interests are broader, coming under the general banner of systems biology and AI applied to pathology. He is currently Professor of Pathology in St Andrews, and Director of Development for Laboratory Medicine in NHS Lothian.   David holds honorary chairs in Glasgow, Florida, Edinburgh, the last of these where he was Professor of Pathology for 12 years and Director of the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre.  Alongside his clinical and academic work, David is director in several small biotech companies, he chairs the UK Committee on Carcinogenicity and is Chairperson of a number of Charities. He is Director of iCAIRD (Industrial Centre for AI Research in Digital Diagnostics), a Scotland-wide consortium funded by Innovate UK.

Peter Caie worked for 9 years as a Senior Scientist at AstraZeneca before completing his PhD from the University of Edinburgh in Cancer Pathology. He went on to run the Quantitative and Digital Pathology (QUAD) Lab at the University of St Andrews where his research focused on both artificial intelligence, and cancer prognosis and diagnosis in the field of digital and molecular pathology. Currently, Dr. Caie is a Principal Scientist at Indica Labs where he manages the company’s AI based projects involving external collaborators, with the aim of translating deep learning algorithms into routine clinical workflow.

Dr Devesh Sinha is a Chief Clinical Information Officer for Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He is the Lead Consultant Stroke Physician at Queen’s hospital, London and North East London Stroke Network Lead. He is an innovator of HOT-TIA, which has been awarded him with Hospital hero, EHI award, HSJ award and NHS Innovation challenge prize of £100,000. He is also the recipient of the outstanding clinician award by EMS and excellence award as rated by patients on Iwantgreatcare in 2018.

He has strategised, operationalised and transformed stroke services at BHRUT with the PRIDEWAY leading to a D rated service to A or B-rated. This service won the BMJ award for 2019  for rapid transformation.

He is interested in clinician-focused digital intervention with digital clinical strategy, clinically meaningful EPR/ AI and process mapped intervention in the pathways.

João is an Intensive Care and Internal Medicine Consultant at Hospital da Luz Lisboa. His interest in the use of digital tools has led to improvements and the upgrading of available tools in all of the hospitals he has worked for and to create new tools and solutions like the one being presented.

His passion and some proficiency in coding has also led him to create his own app, listed in the App Store under the name ‘Remarkable Edge’.

Yasmin joined the NHS five years ago, starting as a Graduate Management Trainee at Guy’s and St Thomas (GSTT) before progressing to a Service Manager role.

As a Service Manager, Yasmin specialised in the operational and strategic management of outpatient services, working with the clinical team to improve the patient journey. Yasmin has experience of writing NHS business cases, managing a large administration and implementing digital technology within a clinical setting. 

Yasmin has been involved in the implementation of an electronic patient record in GSTT’s outpatient services and the development and successful management of an online digital booking system for Paediatric Allergy Challenges.

Andrew Huxter was appointed Vice President of Northern Europe, Switzerland and the EMEA Growth Markets in July 2017. Previously having held Commercial Leadership positions for various European geographies after having joined ResMed in July 2011 as Finance Director for the UK and European Distribution Network.

Andrew has more than 25 years of experience in the Healthcare Industry, with experience in the functions of Commercial Sales, Finance, IT, Marketing and Business Development.  Before joining ResMed, he held various senior international roles at Companies including UnitedHealth, GE Healthcare and Lonza. 

Andrew has qualified as a chartered management accountant having studied Business & Finance at University.

George works for the NHS AI Lab’s Ethics Initiative. He conducts and manages research projects that aim to accelerate the safe, ethical, and effective adoption of AI across health and care in the UK.

This past year, he has collaborated with Health Education England to investigate requirements for enhancing knowledge, skills and capabilities to develop healthcare workers’ confidence in AI. George previously worked at an independent consultancy, where he provided advice on government policies and corporate public affairs.

Garry Pettet is a consultant radiologist with an extensive background in software engineering. He has 20 years of open source programming experience in a variety of programming languages and frameworks.

He’s created (or contributed to) numerous projects and apps covering a wide range of domains including programming language design, natural language parsing, DICOM parsing and machine learning. He’s passionate about utilising software to improve patient care and radiologist productivity.

He now works for Medica contributing to their future technology plans in addition to general radiology reporting where has a subspecialist interest in pediatrics and neuroradiology.

Harriet Unsworth is a Technical Advisor in the Office for Digital Health at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), UK. She is an expert in the evaluation of digital and artificial intelligence technologies for health and care. She has an MSc in data science and artificial intelligence and a PhD in molecular biology.  

Dr Harvey is an experienced clinician and health technology consultant. He is a board certified consultant radiologist and academic, trained in the NHS and Europe’s leading cancer research center, the Institute of Cancer Research, where he was twice awarded ICR Science Writer of the Year.

He has held leadership roles at two flagship UK startups, leading to successfully gaining the world-first CE marking for an AI-supported triage service, and the first UK CE mark for a deep-learning medical device.

He was a co-opted member of the Royal College of Radiologists informatics committee and sat on their AI policy reference group. He also acted as co-chair to the Topol health technology review for Health Education England commissioned by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, and sat on the editorial board at Nature: Digital Medicine.

He now serves as Managing Director at Hardian Health, a multi-disciplinary digital health technology consultancy, and holds an honorary research fellowship at the Institute of Cognitive Neurosciences at UCL.

Shardi was inspired to set up Tuune after she was misdiagnosed with bowel cancer in her twenties.

With her symptoms eventually put down to stress, she quit her job and pursued two additional health degrees to find out what was really happening with her health. After diagnosing herself with a hormone imbalance, she embarked on her own journey to solve the troubling disconnect between medicine and female health.

Dr Sunil Kumar Daga is a Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds. He is an honorary scientific advisor for Kidney Research Yorkshire charity and an honorary medical advisor for South Asian Health Action charity. He is a committee member of Research and Clinical Trials at British Transplant Society, UK.

His research interests are data analytics and machine learning approaches to develop predictive models, effect of ethnicity on outcomes, novel diagnostic tools in assessment of antibodies in organ transplantations. His current (2020) h-index is 9.

He was a member of Living Transplant Initiative and co-led community projects to improve living kidney donation in South Asians. He had actively contributed in parliamentary committee for organ donation and strategy for organ donation in BAME. He supervised master project at NHS Digital and University of Manchester on a large dataset exploring effect of ethnicity on outcomes following living kidney donors in UK. He is currently working in collaboration with the Centre for Decision research, Leeds Institute of Health Sciences to explore decision making around living kidney donation in ethnic minority patients group.

He is also co-supervising project involving mathematical modelling at School of Engineering, University of Warwick in application to outcomes following antibody incompatible kidney transplantation. His other interests are application of novel diagnostic tools in risk stratification for antibody incompatible kidney transplantation.

He is actively supporting NIHR portfolio and commercial clinical trials as a principal and sub-investigator at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Dr Karine Deville graduated with a PhD in Biophysics from University of Leeds – Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology as a Wellcome trust student. She worked as a researcher to pursue her PhD project and moved to France to gain expertise in commercial development, project management and strategy.

Dr Deville joined Cibiltech in 2020 as market access manager after completed a Master in Innovation Management and now supervised their medical device adoption and reimbursement pathway in more than 10 European countries .

Masood is a digitally focussed healthcare leader with business acumen, a clinical background and over 20 years of international healthcare experience. His interests include systems leadership, strategy, quality improvement, digital transformation, innovation and AI.

Masood is the Chief Technology Officer at the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network, part of the AHSN Network, he is also an active member of the national AHSN Network Digital and Ai group in which all 15 regional AHSNs collaborate on national initiatives in the digital and Ai space.

Masood is also the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) for NHS Black Country & West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), serving and commissioning for a population of 1.5 million in the West Midlands. As CMO, he holds executive responsibility for primary care, medicines management, patient and public engagement, clinical leadership and the development of clinical policy. As CCIO, he supports the digital agenda for transformation and innovation across the region.

Former roles include Global Medical Director at Dell Healthcare & Life Sciences, Chief Digital Officer at the Health Innovation Network (south London AHSN), Chair of Negotiators for the British Medical Association JDC and Senior Advisor to UCL Partners (AHSN) and DigtalHealth.London.

Since then Dan has worked as a Psychotherapist, Supervisor and Educator for the NHS and as a Visiting Lecturer at a number of universities, helping train the next generation of Therapists and Psychologists to work in the NHS.

Ellen Coughlan manages a programme of work at the Health Foundation seeking to advance the use of data analytics in the health and social care system. This portfolio has awarded over £3m funding to sixty projects in the health and care system, including the Strengthening Social Care Analytics programme that supports innovative projects to solve the challenges facing social care analytics in the wake of the pandemic. Ellen’s background is in primary care, having led an analytics unit in one of the largest GP federations in the country, and also has experience in mental health service provision and tobacco and alcohol research.

With over a decade in healthcare, working in various innovation and market access roles (industry and provider), Omar is focused on supporting institutes to shape innovation strategy or adoption. He has developed and manages an ecosystem to nurture and accelerate life sciences related innovation to commercialisation, and with his commercial experience has validated a systematic approach to market access and adoption.

Emma Hughes is the Evaluation Lead for the AI in Health and Care Award, which is a > £100m fund managed by the Accelerated Access Collaborative that will accelerate the testing and evaluation of the most promising AI technologies that meet the strategic aims set out in the NHS Long Term Plan. The Award is split across four phases of maturity of the AI technologies and independent evaluations are being commissioned for the most mature to inform their onward adoption and scaling. These evaluations will provide practical learnings on how to conduct AI evaluations in real-world NHS settings, informing NICE and UK National Screening Committee evidence standards. Emma comes to the Award with experience of digital health and real-world evaluation from her work on the NHS Test Beds programme and leading the evaluation strategies for the Clinical Review of Standards and Rapid Diagnostic Centres. Prior to the NHS Emma worked in a range of settings across academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and charity research funding.

Lucy O’Neill is Head of AI Programmes at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and has overseen the London Medical Imaging & AI Centre for Value Based Healthcare since its formation in 2019. The AI Centre is a multi-disciplinary consortium in partnership with academia, industry and NHS Trusts, and is developing AI prototypes and platforms for the development and deployment of AI, most recently expanding to 10 NHS Trusts in the South East.

Lucy has a history of managing academic research collaborations, with a portfolio of work covering ethics, governance, and clinical pathways.

M Jorge Cardoso is a Reader in Artificial Medical Intelligence at King’s College London, where he leads a research portfolio on big data analytics, quantitative radiology and value based healthcare. Jorge is also the CTO of the new London Medical Imaging and AI Centre for Value-based Healthcare.

Prior to King’s, Dr Cardoso was a Lecturer at UCL, Technical Lead of the Quantitative Radiology Initiative at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), and Engineering Lead of the Neuro-oncology Flagship Programme at UCL, Institute of Healthcare Engineering.

He has more than 12 years expertise in advanced image analysis, big data, and artificial intelligence, and co-leads the development of NiftyNet, a deep-learning platform for artificial intelligence in medical imaging. He is also a founder of BrainMiner, a medtech startup aiming to bring quantitative biomarkers and predictive models to neurological care.

A graduate of the NHS Digital Academy with degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Public Administration and Information Systems. Lives in York with his partner and two young children. Klaus Boehncke is a Partner in L.E.K. Consulting’s Munich office and a member of the firm’s Healthcare Services and Life Sciences practices. 

With more than 25 years of experience across Europe and Asia-Pacific, Klaus is a recognized expert in disciplines including digital, technology and business strategy, as well as program management support. He has worked across a variety of areas, including strategy consulting, private equity, venture capital and turnaround management, advising leading private sector clients, government ministries and related public sector bodies. Klaus’ expert commentary has appeared in the Financial Times as well as other publications. He was instrumental in developing the L.E.K. Digital Excellence (DEX) maturity model, which has been used in many of our client engagements and also by clients. 

At L.E.K., Klaus focuses on digital strategy and innovation for healthcare services companies (including clinic chains and hospitals) as well as life sciences corporates, and on reviewing digital and healthcare IT solutions on due diligence work for investors in these markets. Innovation themes that Klaus advises on include exponential acceleration of digital change, the application of AI and data analytics for healthcare decision support, mobile apps and digital therapeutics, as well as telemedicine. 

Before joining L.E.K., Klaus was a partner with the IBM Global Digital Strategy Team and other leading consulting firms. He holds an MSc degree in Physics from the Technical University of Munich and the University of Illinois, and an MBA with Distinction from INSEAD, France.

Tara Donnelly is the interim Chief Digital Officer at NHS England.

She oversees a portfolio of citizen facing digital services, including the NHS website, NHS App and the development of digital services which meet people’s needs, target prevention and offer a personalised experience.

Tara is on secondment from her role as Chief Executive of the Health Innovation Network. She has led the Health Innovation Network for over three years and is also a non-executive director at the Nuffield Trust.

She has an extensive background in leadership roles within the NHS and the voluntary and community sector and has spent the past 18 years at board level. She has worked in the NHS for 30 years, with her first role being as a Ward Housekeeper when she was 18.

Dr. Wei Fan is the executive director of Tencent Hippocrates Labs. His main interests are in using various artificial intelligence techniques-based digital therapeutics & digital biomarker for clinical problems, such as motion disorder syndrome (e.g., Parkinson’s disease), cancer radiotherapy planning, heart failure early detection, etc. Dr. Fan received Ph. D. in Computer Science from Columbia University. He has been working in AI since 1995. He has over 150 top journals and conference papers with h-index of 58. He has received multiple best paper awards in top AI conferences and competitions. He served as the associate editor of ACM Transaction on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining.

Hadas Bitran is Head of Health & Life Sciences at the Microsoft Israel R&D Center.

Hadas and her group focus on building AI technologies and solutions for the healthcare domain, including language services, natural language processing technologies, conversational intelligence and personal health assistants.

During her career in Microsoft, Hadas has been developing products in the areas of healthcare, personal assistants, recommendation systems, online advertising and consumer privacy. Her work has been shipped as part of Cortana, Bing and the Windows Operating System.

Before Microsoft, Hadas held senior leadership positions managing software R&D and Product groups in corporates and in start-up companies.

Hadas received her B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Tel Aviv University, and her MBA from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in Chicago.

Dr Indra Joshi is the Director of AI at NHSX and runs the NHS AI Lab – a £250m programme to accelerate the safe adoption of ethical and effective AI-driven technologies to the front line of health and care. 

Indra has a unique portfolio with experience stretching across digital health, data and AI strategy and delivery; whilst remaining true to her professional training as an emergency medic.   

She is a Founding Member of One HealthTech – a network which campaigns for the need and importance of better inclusion of all backgrounds, skillsets and disciplines in health technology. Alongside she is an associate editor for BMJ Leader, a member of the WHO digital health expert group, a consultant on digital health, and most importantly a mum to two wonderful little munchkins.

Frank has always been at the forefront of IT innovation. In his early career he was instrumental in building technological infrastructure in the finance industry.  Frank founded TPP in 1997 and pioneered integrated care – delivering his vision of connected care across all health settings. Today, TPP provides leading software that is transforming healthcare worldwide. Frank is active in all aspects of the company’s business operations, working alongside the teams in the development of TPP’s products and representing the company in the public domain.

Frank’s innovative vision is nationally recognised by the NHS, leading journals and healthcare organisations. In 2012, he was elected to the board of TechUK as a spokesperson for the healthcare IT sector. The following year, he was listed as one of the UK’s top 50 innovators in the national health publication, HSJ. In 2015, Frank was named on the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List to be awarded with an OBE (Order of the British Empire), for his services to healthcare.

Frank has been invited on numerous government trade missions, representing the UK health industry around the world. He has visited countries such as China, India and Brazil as part of trade missions led by British Prime Minister, David Cameron and by Kenneth Clarke, QC, MP.

Samantha Roberts has recently been appointed as Chief Executive of the Accelerated Access Collaborative, the national umbrella organisation for health innovation, hosted in NHS England and NHS Improvement.

She originally trained as a doctor and practiced medicine in South Africa, the UK, and Australia before undertaking an MBA and joining McKinsey and Company, where she worked in a wide range of industries before specialising in healthcare.

After McKinsey she moved into the NHS as a senior manager at a large teaching hospital in London (UCLH) and a director in an Academic Health Sciences Centre and Network (UCLPartners). Before taking on the role of Director of Innovation, Research and Life Sciences at NHS England and NHS Improvement last year.

Over the last five years she has become involved in research, working with health economic models to inform evidence-based policy, initially at the London School of Economics before moving to the University of Oxford to undertake a DPhil (PhD).

Christina is an innovation senior manager at NHS England and NHS Improvement. After working for many years as an adult nurse specialising in critical care, Christina moved to a quality improvement and patient safety role in an acute Trust, particularly developing the Women and Children’s service. In 2018 Christina joined the Innovation, Research and Life sciences team supporting innovation programmes which challenge traditional ways of working to improve patient care. Christina’s MSc in Implementation and Improvement Science and recent work have led her to focus on the factors which affect successful adoption and spread of innovation into healthcare, covering a wide
range of innovations including MedTech, diagnostic, digital and AI solutions. Christina leads the AI Award delivery team: the team supports the AAC ambition to improve the pipeline for innovations which meet the needs of patients and the National Health Service.

Dr Natalie Banner is the Lead for Understanding Patient Data (UPD), an initiative hosted at the Wellcome Trust to support better conversations about how patient data is used for care and research. UPD works with patients, charities and health professionals to champion responsible uses of data, feeding into policy development, creating accessible resources and horizon scanning for emerging issues that may affect public confidence in the use of health data. This includes exploring emerging data-driven technologies and how to create the right ethical and governance frameworks for these in healthcare and research. Natalie formerly led Wellcome’s policy work on GDPR and data protection, seeking to ensure UK legislation and regulation creates a supportive, trustworthy environment for health research using patient and health-related data. She was recently named in BioBeat’s “50 Movers and Shakers in BioBusiness” for 2018.

An innovative operational strategy expert with extensive and wide-ranging experience relating to strategic programme leadership, planning and management of clinical trials with responsibility for global clinical programmes (US, Europe and Japan). Peju started her career working in early drug discovery and exploratory phase focused on the transition of early stage assets to clinical development. Following this, she moved into programme management of late stage assets responsible for key clinical programmes within Eli Lilly, Sanofi Aventis, Pfizer and Takeda before joining BenevolentAI as Clinical Development Operations Leader.

Neil is an Information Management professional by background and spent over 25 years in the NHS running clinical information systems to support operational Trust activity. 

Since moving into independent management consulting in 2011, Neil has undertaken a number of service reviews of IM&T/Informatics functions to ensure alignment between service delivery and organisational strategic/operational priorities. 

He is passionate about the role technology can play in improving healthcare delivery and has led many successful national and locally driven IT-enabled change management programmes and projects, to support significant improvements to healthcare delivery. 

Neil is interested in the development of interoperability between IT systems across Healthcare sectors and better use of information in support of healthcare delivery redesign.

Neil qualified with a Psychology Degree at Leicester university then completed a Postgraduate qualification in AI. 

In addition to his management consulting roles Neil is a Non-Executive Director for the South West Academic Health Science Network and for Stalis Ltd – who specialise in data management in the health and social care setting.

He is also the Managing Director for a company that was established to carry out research into the early identification of people with liver disease, supported by a 3-year grant (£1.5m) from the NIHR.

Paul Singer is CCIO Bedfordshire, Luton & Milton Keynes, GP Luton and a failed skier & scuba diver!

Paul believes, integrating data across systems needs to be paralleled by effective curation of records or else we become overwhelmed by information often lacking accuracy and context so that faced with a patient neither they nor we can easily recall when they had that knee replacement or exactly why. We need to be thinking at an early stage of how we derive accurate and timely information from the mass of data which is collected through integrating health and care records at any level.

Some of this can be achieved through careful organizational curation but there will also be a need to develop intelligence in evolving record sharing so that at the point of care we can be presented with relevant, contextual information which supports safe and efficient care processes and the wood is stacked up as we walk through the trees.

Jenny Muir is currently the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (2018-present time) at a London Trust, having previously worked in several senior clinical, educational and corporate roles within the NHS.  These roles have enabled her to develop my nursing, leadership and management skills, along with other transferable skills relevant to the fast-paced and rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. She is required to provide expert professional advice, develop strategies and implement policies to assure the quality and safety of nursing, midwifery and AHP practice.

Within her current role she has acted as the nurse lead for the implementation of electronic clinical documentation (including electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration – ePMA) within inpatient, outpatient and theatre settings. This process has required robust project and change management skills and the ability to collaborate closely with other colleagues across the trust along with external agencies.

Sid Singh is an NHS Consultant Urologist in the middle of England but wears other hats.  As the Chief Clinical Informatics Officer at his hospital, he leads the clinical informatics department. He is responsible for developing the Clinical IT strategy and driving its implementation. There are various digital initiatives that he is involved with as part of the digital transformation that the hospital is going through. 

Sid has completed a post-graduate diploma in Digital Health Leadership, a flagship programme of the National Health Service (NHS), UK designed to equip the clinical informatics leaders to lead and drive the imminent digital transformation in the NHS.  

Sid has initiated a new Clinical Informatics training programme aimed at delivering core competencies required for the clinical informatics leaders in his hospital. A curriculum is being developed using the competency requirements from both the North American and UK Clinical Informatics professional organisations. 

Sid is faculty at Warwick Medical School and regularly teach medical students and trainees. He is involved in collaborative academic health IT projects with the aim of generating high impact publications and creating a hotbed of innovation at the interface of industry, academia and the public sector.  

Reet Johal is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, with a special interest in Minimal Access Surgery. She is the Chief Clinical Information Officer at the James Paget University Hospital and started in this role in June 2020. Their Integrated Care System is embarking on a journey to jointly procure an electronic patient record solution, to allow joined up patient care at the three acute hospitals as well as primary and community care. In addition, they have an extensive digital transformation programme being undertaken at trust level, looking at digitalisation of observations, test requesting and results management; and streamlining login processes with single sign on. Having worked in the NHS for 13 years, Reet is very excited about the journey of digitalisation, and loves the challenge of managing change.

Shauna is currently the Chief Information Officer & Executive Board member at Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG).  Prior to joining the Trust, she was a Partner in Digital Transformation Consulting at South Central & West CSU.  Having worked in the Canadian Healthcare system for many years, she came to the UK in late 2015 to join Frimley Health as their CIO.  Shauna is passionate about the positive impact effective digital transformational can have in the health and care system. As a leader she is grounded in the belief that healthy relationships with people are key to success, in combination with a positive attitude to lead and coach teams to achieve and exceed results, goals and targeted deliverables. This is combination with attention to continuous learning are critical components of being a successful digital Leader.

Sam is currently the Chief Clinical Information Officer at North West Ambulance Service. He has a keen interest in patient flow across both the internal service lines of patient transport, NWAS111 and the NWAS Paramedic Service and how this links with the wider health economy. He is currently working on projects to share information at a regional and local level to assist frontline resources access digital care records to reduce ambulance transport and improve patient experience and outcomes. His career in the NHS has seen him work in a number of care settings including international experience with the Qatar national ambulance service. He also has a wealth of experience in working in commercial settings having produced and delivered health focussed training to Industry leaders such as British Aerospace, Exxon Mobile and Wilkinson Hardware. He holds a Master’s degree in Advanced Practice and is a visiting lecturer at several British Universities.  Sam aspires to bring the wealth of experience to the digital role with an emphasis on digital first and artificial intelligence to provide live sense checking and feedback from the use of digital triage tools.

Dr John McCormick is a GP partner in South Devon and Chief Clinical Information Officer for Devon Integrated Care System. John has led the successful roll out of online consultations in primary care over the last few years and has developed an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced when implementing and optimising this type of technology at scale. He has recently completed an MSc at the NHS Digital Leadership Academy. John is currently the chair of the South West CCIO/CIO network.

Robert qualified in engineering and medicine at Cambridge and Oxford Universities.  He became a consultant chest physician in 2004 and was CCIO at Gateshead Hospitals from 2008.  He certified as a leader in Lean in 2013 in collaboration with Virginia Mason Medical Centre of Seattle.  He uses lean principles for the application of digital systems with the aim to eliminate wasted time and non-value activity in order to reduce cost, improve safety, and to provide excellent patient experience.  He is a graduate of the North East Leadership Academy.  Gateshead Hospital is now rated Outstanding by the CQC and is a fast follower in the Global Digital Exemplar program.  In August 2020 Robert relocated to Gloucestershire (for love) and now works in role of CCIO for Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust.

When not trying to understand value streams or designing better systems in hospitals, Robert loves climbing mountains, cycling, skiing and running –all of which his sons remind him how much faster they are. He plays the clarinet and has a fondness for musical theatre.

Javier has devoted his career to the fields of Marketing and Business Development. During the early years of his working life, he developed his professional skills in the Marketing area of renowned companies of the Food & Beverage industry. Afterwards, he moved to Business Development, where he quickly jumped to the international scenario, managing corporate sales in different continents. By 2017, he was managing Sales Department at a multinational company for the whole African Continent.

In 2017, Javier founded IOMED together with two other business partners. At IOMED, Javier has been CEO, managing the company’s strategy, business development, public relations and investors’ relations.

A former Darzi Fellow, Fay joined the Health Innovation Network from the London Ambulance Service where she was employed as Paramedic team leader, before which she has worked as a physiotherapist and gained a MSc in Healthcare Leadership at King’s College London. Fay’s HIN portfolio is primarily concerned with the promotion of healthy living and the prevention of illness and disability affecting older people. She is leading on the NHSX Innovation Collaboration for London which sees the London STPs/ICSs supporting the implementation and evaluation of remote monitoring in care homes across the capital.

Professor Gilbert is Head of Department of Radiology at the University of Cambridge. Her clinical work and research is focused on imaging techniques relating to breast cancer and oncology.  She is interested in multimodal functional imaging with MRI and PET of the tumour environment using breast cancer as a model and correlating this with the tumour genetic profile.  She undertakes research in stratified breast screening using Abbreviated MRI, Tomosynthesis, Whole Breast Ultrasound and Contrast Enhanced Mammography. She maintains a strong interest in musculo-skeletal imaging.  She evaluates new imaging technology and is currently working on Artificial Intelligence in Imaging. 

Since 2012 Professor Gilbert has been awarded fifteen competitive grants worth over £20M. She was a member of the NIHR HTA Board and then the EME Board and is on a number of advisory panels.

Professor Gilbert has 236 peer reviewed publications, 5 book chapters and numerous conference abstracts.   She is a regular speaker at international Radiology conferences in Chicago and Vienna and is current President of the European Society of Breast Imaging and was awarded the Gold Medal from the European Society of Radiology in 2021.

Stephanie is an NHS Clinical Entrepreneur and Senior Research Fellow at UCL and UCLH where she was awarded a Doctorate in Clinical Research in Oncology. Research Interests include Integrated Data Models for Cancer Monitoring, Survivorship and Longevity. A Clinician-Scientist with over 10 years experience, Stephanie has served on council on a National Cancer Society (BGCS) and is the Healthcare Ambassador of the global organisation Women in AI (WAI). She is a Scientific Advisor to WILD.AI and the Havas Lynx Faculty and on the Advisory Committee of the Social Impact Community, the Conduit, London.

Naomi Lee is a Senior Executive Editor at the leading medical journal The Lancet. She has responsibility for research, leading the development and implementation of the research strategy for The Lancet, and advising on the research content of the other journals in The Lancet family of journals. Naomi handles peer review and commissioning across a broad range of subjects including her specialist areas of surgery, digital medicine/AI, and medical technology. She is also a vice chair for the ITU/WHO Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health.

Naomi joined The Lancet in 2014 and was previously the Executive Editor (Digital) where alongside editorial work she led the internal and external digital transformation of The Lancet group. Previously she studied medicine at Cambridge University and King’s College London, before training in surgery, specialising in urology and working for almost 10 years in the United Kingdom. She has completed fellowships in Argentina, and Mexico. She has also studied data science at University College London.

Erik de Heus has been at the helm of SkinVision as CEO since 2017. With over 20 years of global experience, Erik has both the breadth of experience and proven knowledge to drive the health tech company’s mission forward.

Throughout his previous work within Hewlett-Packard and Royal Philips Electronics, he has experience building new products and services with a global scope. For Hewlett-Packard, he worked and lived in Geneva and Mountain View. In various management positions, working across cultures with different corporate and entrepreneurial teams, he created and managed different solutions in the technology, finance, services, health, and wellbeing spaces.

In addition to this global experience, Erik was CEO of a Dutch renewable energy company Oxxio. Under his management, the company grew in the timeframe from inception to generate over € 500,000,000. In the buy and build strategy, Oxxio acquired and integrated four companies in two years. OXXIO was acquired in 2005 by Centrica Preventing an IPO planned for mid-2005. Erik holds a Master degree in Business Economics from the Free University of Amsterdam.

Kevin Goodwin is a 32 year veteran innovator from the global ultrasound business. In 1998 he founded Sonosite, the world’s first ultrasound company to miniaturize & simplify ultrasound technology. Today, Kevin is engaged in another first: applying artificial intelligence to recognize anatomy and quickly guide medical practitioners of all skill levels in easily looking into the body, and to make more accurate diagnostic assessments in just seconds. In 2015, Kevin co-founded EchoNous for the purpose of creating intelligent medical tools with extremely miniaturized, diagnostic grade technology.

John manages the clinical aspects of the company’s operations including legislation, information governance, clinical safety and ensuring TPP’s products reflect the latest medical practice.

Dr Parry graduated from the University of Cambridge with a medical degree in 1980. He moved to Yorkshire in 1984 to take a position as a partner of Keighley Health Centre, specialising in oncology and palliative care. He was an early user of SystmOne and recognised the benefits clinical IT could bring to the delivery of patient care. As a result, Dr Parry took the role of clinical lead at TPP, directing the clinical aspects of all products throughout the development process. He holds relationships with leading medical representatives around the country to make sure TPP’s company priorities align with those of the wider clinical community. John became a Director in 2007 and now leads a team of expert clinicians, ensuring TPP’s products meet the requirements of health services.

Dr Parry’s expertise as a healthcare specialist is nationally recognised. He is a member of various high-level committees, including the TechUK Health and Social Care board. As a leading clinician, he is frequently invited to give keynote speeches on a wide range of topics, including information governance and the role of IT in patient care.

Dr Rayna Patel is a medical doctor & neuroscientist with an MPhil in Translational Medicine. She has extensive experience in academia (Cambridge, Harvard, MIT, Columbia) and was an Associate Fellow of Clare Hall College, Cambridge. Rayna has subsequently held strategic & commercial roles in government policy, tech startups & the Cabinet Office’s Nudge Unit, where she used behavioural science to rewire patient behaviours through digital products.

She is currently CEO and Co-Founder of Vinehealth, a digital platform using a combination of behavioural science and AI to improve the quality of life and survival of cancer patients, whilst generating crucial real-world data to better inform healthcare delivery and drug development.

Elina Naydenova is a biomedical & AI engineer, with a PhD in Machine Learning for Healthcare Innovation from Oxford University. She is the CEO & co-founder of Feebris – a company whose AI-powered platform enables carers & community health workers to detect health conditions early. She was named Female Entrepreneur of the Year (2020) by Giant Health and Innovator of the Year (2020) by Giant Health.

Kassandra Karpathakis is Head of AI Strategy for the NHS AI Lab, NHSX. Kassandra provides strategic direction across the Lab’s portfolio and is passionate about building international partnerships to share expertise in health AI. Her other responsibilities include overseeing policy research projects with a focus on evaluation of health AI.

Prior to this, Kassandra was Public Health England’s Digital Strategy Lead and a founding member of a health tech start-up. Kassandra consistently demonstrates her passion and expertise for bringing together different communities of professionals and users to create and deliver digital health projects. 

Kassandra leveraged these skill sets within PHE’s COVID-19 Guidance Cell to create a new cross-government COVID-19 guidance production process, to ensure high-quality guidance reached the public in a timely manner, and to keep the wheels on the bus turning at times of high pressure. 

Kassandra is also recognised on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Roster of Digital Health Experts. She is currently an expert lead on evaluation of health AI for the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and WHO Focus Group on AI for Health. 

Kassandra is originally from Perth, Western Australia, where she studied physiology, anthropology and philosophy at The University of Western Australia. 

Alan is the Director of Innovation Programmes and Partnerships within the newly established Innovation, Transformation & Digital Directorate. 

Alan’s responsibility at Health Education England is to establish and build collaborative partnerships and explore the spread of new workforce programs between system partners (at national, regional and local level) and Health Education England. His areas of interest & responsibility span the directorate including workforce transformation, digital readiness, XR/VR/immersive learning, patient safety, genomics and AI & robotics. 

Prior to joining Heath Education England, Alan was the Director of Digital Health for the Innovation Agency (NWC AHSN) / ex-Deputy-Chair of the Digital & AI INN (the AHSN Network); he led on strategic digital themes across the AHSN Network, sat on his two respective ICS/STP digital boards and was a member of steering groups for high profile pieces of work including the NHS Empower the Person, NICE DHT Evidence Standard Framework and the HEE led Topol review. 

Alan also works and is a regular technology assessor / judge for the NIHR/NHSx/AAC AI Lab (Ph 3 and Ph 4), TSA, HSJ and EPSRC bodies.

Alan’s preceding roles to joining the Innovation Agency include strategic exec directorship roles in the multinational MedTech / assistive technology industry (Philips & Tunstall Healthcare) and prior to that had a long career in multinational management consultancy (Partner PA Consulting, PwC and Gemini Consulting). 

Dr Emma Hughes is the Evaluation Lead for the AI in Health and Care Award, which is a £140m fund managed by the Accelerated Access Collaborative that will accelerate the testing and evaluation of the most promising AI technologies that meet the strategic aims set out in the NHS Long Term Plan. The Award is split across four phases of maturity of the AI technologies and independent evaluations are being commissioned for the most mature to inform their onward adoption and scaling. The execution of these evaluations will provide practical learnings on how to conduct AI evaluations in real-world NHS settings, informing NICE and PHE evidence standards. Emma comes to the Award with experience of digital health and real-world evaluation from her work on the NHS Test Beds programme and leading the evaluation strategies for the Clinical Review of Standards and Rapid Diagnostic Centres. Prior to the NHS Emma worked in a range of settings across academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and charity research funding.

Through her career, Julia has been involved in the development and application of cutting-edge quantitative methodology across broad range of projects including Real World Data (RWD) and experimental trials. Combination of consultancy skills, ability to see a bigger picture, strong quantitative background, and interest to address business and real-life problems helped Julia to apply modern methods in UK academia and pharma environment. Her most recent experience includes diagnostics in Radiology, application of quantitative methods in RWE and digital health area. She is a current chair of Data Science Special Interest Group (SIG) in Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry (PSI) organisation and is passionate about building up communication bridges between various communities involved in Data Science activities.  

Sreeram (Ram) Ramagopalan is the Global Head for Real World Evidence for Market Access at Roche. Dr Ramagopalan’s team strategically plans and executes real world research studies to obtain and maintain access for Roche medicines. Dr Ramagopalan holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Oxford, as well as an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is an international expert in real world evidence with over 275 peer reviewed publications.

Dr Nick West is the Chief Medical Officer and Divisional Vice-President of Global Medical Affairs of the Vascular Division at Abbott, a global medical device company developing life-changing technologies to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease and improve patients’ lives. He graduated in medicine from Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge and St. Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London, and trained in interventional cardiology at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Green Lane Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. His postgraduate research in vascular biology, undertaken in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Oxford and at Duke University, led to the award of the Sir Lionel Whitby Medal and the Sir Walter Langdon-Brown Prize at the University of Cambridge. Until late 2019 he was a practicing interventional cardiologist at the Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, UK; he has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers & book chapters on topics including coronary physiology/microvascular function, intracoronary imaging/vulnerable plaque detection, acute myocardial infarction and use of bioresorbable scaffolds. He was also a founding member and latterly Chief Medical Officer of the Cambridge-based biotechnology startup, PlaqueTec Ltd.

Sarantos Kaptanis is a Global Development Medical Director in Late Oncology Research and Development, working for AstraZeneca. Sarantos trained in Greece (Athens) for his MD, JD and Masters degrees and moved to the UK to further his surgical training in general, breast and plastic surgery. He obtained postgraduate qualifications in health research, education and leadership there. At Barts Cancer Institute (Queen Mary, University of London) he investigated the role of breast cancer heterogeneity on outcomes, looking at overall survival and ctDNA levels after surgery for breast cancer. He has co-authored and contributed to several publications and led a surgical research collaborative.

Tommy is currently an Associate Medical Director at Galapagos Biotech, specialising in inflammatory disease. He has worked in the pharmaceutical industry since 2016, previously employed by Gilead Sciences and Bayer. He has a background in clinical medicine and was a doctor in the NHS. He has spent time in clinical research. His thesis was creating novel medical devices in the treatment of oncology. He holds an MBA and is a mentor for varies healthcare start-ups.

Sabine joined Roche in 2006 as Translational Medicine Leader in early development covering molecules in metabolism and ophthalmology, then moving to the innovative Pediatric Oncology Drug Development team (iPODD) in 2014, where she was the Clinical Science Leader for the pediatric development of Avastin, Cobimetinib and Hemlibra. In 2017 she joined PD Neuroscience, where she acted as Global Clinical Development Team Leader for Olesoxime and most recently Clinical Science Leader for Risdiplam in Spinal Muscular Atrophy. In July 2020 she joined the Personalized Health Care (PHC) Safety Interface team within Roche, a team that works to better understand patient-centric drivers of response to optimize the benefit/risk balance of medicines and drive precision medicine within Roche.

Sabine is a board certified pediatrician with speciality in pediatric diabetology from the University of Erlangen/Germany. She has over 19 years of experience in drug development in the pharmaceutical industry, including strategic roles in both early and late clinical research and medical affairs.

When not at work, Sabine enjoys time with her family and her 10 year old daughter, biking the Black Forest and playing the violin.

A surgeon by training and entrepreneur by mindset, he heads up Human Risk Management (Medical Safety) at Reckitt where he overseas end to end risk management across products in Health, Hygiene and Nutrition. His interest being safety by design and safety as competitive advantage.  

Being a digital health researcher and entrepreneur, he is a mentor and heads up research at a digital health company iKure (Honorary). He is interested in the use of Data Analytics and AI/ML for social good with particular interest in healthcare delivery.

‘Faisal is the head of Global Risk Management in the WW R&D Organisation at Bristol Myers Squibb.  He has been in clinical development and medical affairs roles based out of the UK, France and the USA over the last 16 years with Sanofi, GSK & Novartis and was the Head of the European Medical Group at BMS before making the transition to his current role.  He graduated with a medical degree from Cambridge University and was a hospital doctor in the NHS with a focus in oncology & neurology prior to moving to industry.’

A pharmaceutical physician, with a CCST in Pharmaceutical medicine. Janet have a background in immunology and epidemiology provides a strong scientific background combined with over 20 years’ practical experience in clinical research within the pharmaceutical industry.  This includes time spent in interventional clinical research, and decade in the observational study environment designing, executing and interpreting research projects requiring bespoke data capture as well as secondary use of existing data,.  I am passionate about the potential of real world evidence to inform, and where necessary help to change, clinical practice, with the over-arching aim being to benefit patients.

Teodora Festini, MD got her medical degree in Croatia, at University of Rijeka. She is an experienced medical affairs expert that worked with Abbott, Abbvie and currently Sandoz (Novartis division). She has been working on country, regional and global positions and is experienced in launch of several biologic products and indications. Her major focus of interest is maximizing medical affairs impact on transformation of healthcare landscape.

Michael Wiechmann is a German national living in Switzerland and a MD by training with specialization in internal medicine, haemato-oncology and medical informatics.

Early during his clinical training he experienced the power and potential of medical informatics to improve diagnostic processes and patient care. Since more than 20 years he is involved in the development and use of intelligent IT tools for predictive modeling, medical decision making and AI driven diagnostic support.

He also holds a MBA and PhD in health economics and business administration and is an active professor for strategy and health care management.

In his current role as Global Head Medical Affairs at Sandoz Biopharmaceuticals (a Novartis division) he is responsible for the entire spectrum of medical affairs with a special focus on strategic development, real world evidence generation and digitization of medical affairs. 

Prior to joining Sandoz, Michael founded a biotech company and has held several leadership positions in global medical affairs and management in pharma, biotech and health insurance companies.

Hatim is a Primary Care Physician in North West London, with experience in national healthcare policy, medical education and digital health. Hatim is one of the co-founders of the ‘Topol Programme for Digital Fellowships in Healthcare’ which provides health professionals with time, support and training to lead digital health transformations and innovations in their organisations. He is passionate about ensuring that healthcare professionals are prepared for and considered in the development of technologies which will impact on clinical practice and believes technology will massively change Primary and Community Healthcare in the future.  Hatim is a Senior Lecturer at Brunel University London, where he is leading the implementation of the first longitudinal approach to digital health within an undergraduate medical curriculum. Hatim provides the clinical leadership to the DART-Ed (Digital, AI and Robotics Technologies in Education) Programme at Health Education England, which looks to evaluate and prepare the National Health Service workforce preparedness for working effectively with these technologies.  

Dr Katerina Spranger is the Founder and CEO of the digital health startup Oxford Heartbeat, which has developed an innovative medical software called PreSize® Neurovascular that helps surgeons to rehearse and plan high-risk brain stenting surgeries more safely and accurately. PreSize enables surgeons to select the best-fit stent for each patient, with the aim of reducing surgical complications and improving patient outcomes. Oxford Heartbeat has received several important accolades, most recently the AI Health and Care Award in 2020 (NHSX and NIHR), which funds a pilot of PreSize at 6+ NHS Trusts. The company was also named by WIRED as the Best UK Healthcare Startup of 2018, and received the NHS Innovation Award in 2017. Katerina was named a “Founder Striving to Change the World” by Forbes in 2016, and a “Young Innovator of the Year” at Falling Walls Berlin 2013. She is also an Enterprise Fellow at The Royal Academy of Engineering, and holds a PhD in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford.

I am a research focussed clinical scientist, working in advanced imaging and image processing for radiotherapy.

My interests include translating cutting-edge methods into routine clinical practice and maximising patient benefit through digital technology, particularly artificial intelligence. Robustness is critical for novel digital technologies in the health sphere, to enable safe and effective uptake of AI.

My clinical work involves imaging patient motion during radiotherapy. Before changing career into radiotherapy I was a chemical physicist working in academic research. I enjoy the outdoors and live in Leeds with my wife and two boys.

George Harston is a Physician Scientist working between industry, academia and healthcare. George works as CMO (and leads Innovation) at Brainomix, a spinout company from the University of Oxford, developing and implementing AI-driven clinical support systems. He also works as a Consultant Physician in Stroke and Internal Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals NHSFT. George specialises in Stroke and Internal Medicine with an interest in real-world delivery of imaging biomarkers. George received his medical degree from the University of Cambridge in 2006. In 2015 George was awarded a DPhil (PhD) from the University of Oxford, following which he continued his research and clinical activity as Clinical Lecturer in the Acute Vascular Imaging Centre. His research centres on CT and MR imaging to better understand the pathophysiology of stroke and global brain injury.

Liz O’Riordan is an international speaker, broadcaster and award-winning co-author of ‘The Complete Guide to Breast Cancer: How to Feel Empowered and Take Control’ (Penguin) with Professor Trisha Greenhalgh.

In 2015 (aged 40) she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer whilst working as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon. In 2018 she had a locoregional recurrence on her chest wall. The side effects of treatment meant she had to retire as a surgeon in 2019. During chemotherapy she started an award-winning blog about her experiences (www.liz.oriordan.co.uk) and talks all over the world about how to improve patient care. She was nominated for a ‘Woman of the Year UK ’ award in 2016 and was one of Medscape’s Top 20 Doctors of 2018.

Liz has a keen interest in digital health and survivorship. She is also a keen sportswoman and is passionate about promoting the benefits of exercise for cancer patients.

I am a leader with a diverse background in managing different kinds of organisations and processes. Currently I am head of Product at Nectarine Health, working on increasing the health and security for elders living at home. In 2020 I left a CEO position where I executed a carve-out, development and successful exit cycle. I have extensive knowledge in software development, product management, project management, software development leadership, leadership team work, corporate board work, sales, sales leadership, marketing and marketing management. I have experience from startups, scale-ups and large corporations locally in Sweden but also internationally.My experiences as a product developer, culture bearer and empathic problem solver are my major assets. Working without prestige and at the speed of trust.

Mike is one of the UKs leading lifestyle medicine researchers and practitioners, publishing over 100 peer reviewed papers. He is Professor of Metabolism & Lifestyle Medicine at Newcastle University, founding director of the National Health Innovation Observatory (NIHR), a former National Institute for Health Research Senior Fellow and Diabetes UK RD Lawrence Fellow. Alongside being a holding roles on the EPSRC Healthcare Technologies Advisory board and past member of the Diabetes UK Science and Research Advisory Board, Mike is also a member of the editorial board of the American Diabetes Association journal ‘Diabetes’ and also ‘Clinical Science’.

Guy is a serial entrepreneur who has spent 20 years working in transformation across health and social care advising providers, commissioners and suppliers, working with DHSC and trade organisations on policy as well as valuation work in the health tech and infrastructure space for VC and PE. Most recently he has worked as a consultant and head of research with LaingBuisson (supplier of health and social care data to ONS) and is currently COO of Teladoc in the UK.  

Daniel Casson is a social care digital transformation and partnership building consultant. He works with innovators, social care providers, local authorities, the NHS, regulators and other health bodies to embed digital transformation and innovation in their everyday work. He works with the tech entrepreneurs and the Department for International Trade to guide innovation in social care. His areas of expertise include:

∙         digital transformation strategy in social care;

∙         creating value by digital transformation;

∙         integration of care and health;

∙         the use of data to enhance care & support,

 He is digital adviser at Care England, and is part of the Digital Social Care Team, working on the NHS Digital-financed programme to support care providers to transform digitally. He has worked closely with NHS Digital in guiding providers through the DSPT process and on how data collected in care organizations can be collated and analyzed on a local and regional level. He works with NHSX to embed digital transformation in social care as part of the Joining up Care Programme and has co-designed a cybersecurity training gap analysis.

Sheena is the CEO and founder of Stress Point Health. She built the company from the ground up, with limited funding and a mission to lower the barriers to mental health treatment by digitising Neurofeedback, driven by her own experiences with PTSD.

Sheena is a seasoned international media and business professional who has spent her career fundraising and investing in the Technology, Media and Telecom sector, after building her foundations in the financial sector. Sheena has over 15 years of experience advising a range of clients on their strategic and financial growth, as well as fundraising in the media and technology sector, including Flick The Switch, FTS Capital, Procam, Mediatel and Numis Securities. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Cambridge University in land economy, and she has been selected for Cambridge Judge Business School Social Ventures 2017 Cohort.

Sheena is part of the Hatch Female Founders Accelerator Cohort 2020, recently voted one of the top 8 female focused accelerators in Europe. She is also a member of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs.

Since joining the University of Manchester 15 years ago, informatics for mental health has been the principal focus of his research. He was the technical lead on the PsyGrid project (2005-2015) that developed the free, open source openCDMS system that was adopted for studies and trials across the Mental Health Research Network. He also developed  the ClinTouchapp  (2010 with Prof Shôn Lewis) for remote monitoring in schizophrenia, followed by the CareLoop Trial and more recently the EMPOWER Trial. Actissist (with Prof Sandra Bucci) delivering CBT via a smartphone app for recovery from psychosis has recently completed its second trial. John is the academic lead for the Greater Manchester Integrated Digital Care Record that links data across health services for the 2.8m citizens of Greater Manchester and has a current research portfolio with projects on learning health systems, IoT, blockchain and machine learning.

José Luis is Director and Associate Professorial Research Fellow at CPEC, LSE. He is also Director of the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Adult Social Care (ASCRU).

 A health and social care economist, José Luis specialises in ageing-related policies, the interaction between health and social care, and the economic evaluation of health and social care systems and services. He has been involved in several high-profile reviews of the social care funding system in England, as well as acting as specialist adviser to the House of Commons Health Select Committee’s Inquiry on social care.

In 2010, he co-founded the International Long-term care Policy Network (ILPN), which links academics and policy makers on the analysis of long-term care. He has also advised bodies such as the English Department of Health and Social Care, the UK Treasury, the European Commission, the Asian Development Bank, and the World Health Organization.

Charlotte is the Director for Mental Health at Oxehealth, who’s ambition is to help clinicians engineer ever better care for patients in hospital and nursing facilities.

Charlotte is working to help systematically raise the standard of care across mental health in the NHS. Her mission is to build lasting partnerships with providers to improve the safety, quality and experience for their patients when they are at their most vulnerable – in hospital – at the same time as delivering operational value for the NHS.

Four years into her time at Oxehealth, Charlotte and the team have a robust and growing evidence base, have supported almost 4 million hours of clinical care and are now working with 1-in-3 NHS England mental health trusts.

She started her career advising global healthcare businesses and their leaders on how to build digital products and transform their services through technology. She holds a Masters in Chemistry from Oxford University and International Public Policy & Public Health from UCL.

Matthew is the founder of Stigma Statistics, a social venture enabling real time visibility and insights on health, safety & suicide prevention. Their STAR platform is used in several STP’s for real time suicide surveillance. More recently they have started developing suicide behavioural monitoring technology using Internet of Things (IoT) beacons and telematic AI pattern matching through triangulation, which can alert to the presence of at risk behaviour and provide an opportunity to intervene, as well as intelligence around the event.

Jorge is a Physics graduate from Imperial College and holds a Masters in AI from the University of Barcelona. 

Having previously founded and directed an award-winning AI consultancy, he has designed and built chat and voice assistants for advance care planning.

Jorge has also implemented successful machine-learning algorithms for GPS-tracked on-demand delivery systems.

Paula Bellostas is a partner in Kearney’s Health and Digital Practices. She works with leading global biopharmaceutical companies at the intersection of medicine and technology to improve patient outcomes.

She came to consulting after a career as an industrial engineer, experience that helped mold her into the curious and analytical person she is today. But despite her background in a field driven by numbers, her approach to work is anything but impersonal. “Work hard, be kind and good things will happen,” she says, explaining her life philosophy.

Paula looks for ways to carry that ethos into her work every day. Consulting, she says, isn’t just about problem-solving; it’s about affecting clients in a positive way. “You’re doing something good for the client. The human-to-human connection is so important.”

Oliver spent six years as the Head of Public Health and Director of Strategy at the Health Authority, Abu Dhabi, before joining the Koa Health team to lead us in our pursuit of solutions for health, grounded in science.

Hassan is the Global Digital Health Specialist for the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) supporting commercial teams in UK Embassies in 96 countries. 

His background is in frontline social work, NHS informatics and public health. He was later a founder at Health iQ – an award-winning agency focusing on real world data, and held CIO and Chief Commercial Officer positions before its acquisition and his exit in 2019.

He is a Director at Vita Healthcare, Co-Chair of the HIMSS Innovation Committee, on the Editorial Board of The International Journal of Digital Health, on the NIHR Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Health and Care Award Assessment Panel, mentors for the NHS Innovation Accelerator and is a Visiting Lecturer at UCL Global Business School for Health.

Sameena Ali-Khan anchors national bulletins for ITV at weekends, and throughout the week on Central Tonight in the Midlands, covering a wide range of stories across daily news and documentaries.

Prior to Lepu Medical, he oversees millions of medical record data exchange in four States, responsible or $18M P&L as the technology transitioned into artificial intelligence processing. With diverse experience in the artificial intelligence legal services, he’s keen on the possibility of AI.
David is responsible for the global adoption of AI-ECG. And has successfully launched USA’s first AI-ECG enabled telemedicine platform, trained on 47 million patients heart ECG data.
With a sister that suffers from congenital heart disease. David is passionate on expanding the possibility of AI in challenging applications for better patient outcomes.

Joe has worked in healthcare IT since 2004 when he joined the first NHS Spine project as part of the National Programme for IT. He often says that since then he has been making up for the sins of the past. Today he advises everyone from the boards of the central NHS bodies to local charities and healthcare organisations on the best way to approach technology change and the best way to harness its potential to provide actual benefits for patients and health services.

Emma is an experienced innovation business leader, with proven track record of strategic and operational implementation of innovation methodology, services and cultural change within global small and large organisations. Emma is a collaborative, open communicator with 23 years international business experience, working since 2001 at the forefront of open innovation process development, understanding the importance of organisational, technical and commercial considerations for successful innovation strategy deployment.

Oliver Smith is the Strategy Director & Head of Ethics at Alpha Health, the health tech Moonshot of Telefónica Innovación Alpha.

Oliver propels Alpha Health’s strategy development, establishing and maintaining strong partnerships to further its mission to deliver breakthrough solutions which address the greatest challenges in the healthcare sector worldwide. In addition, Oliver is the Head of Ethics at Alpha Health, ensuring the total trust of users is at the very centre of the Moonshot’s operations.

Prior to joining Alpha Health in 2016, Oliver worked as the Director of Strategy and Innovation at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, Deputy Director of Health and Wellbeing at the Department of Health and as a Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit.

Tarek R. Besold, PhD, is the Chief Behavioural Officer at Alpha Health, the health tech Moonshot of Telefónica Innovación Alpha.

At Alpha Health, Tarek offers strategic leadership at the intersection between AI, behavioural science, and the design of digital products. Tarek leads a team of 25 full-time engineers to identify opportunities where behavioural science could be applied to improve or change user behaviour in line with Alpha Health’s strategy and roadmap.

Before joining Telefonica Innovation Alpha, he was a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Data Science at City, University of London, conducting research at the intersection between artificial intelligence, computational creativity, and cognitive systems.

Among others, Tarek was the General Chair of the HLAI 2016 and 2018 Joint Multi-Conferences on Human-Level Artificial Intelligence, and founder and organiser of several international workshop series bridging between AI and cognitive science. He was co-editor of the books Computational Creativity Research: Towards Creative Machines and Concept Invention: Foundations, Implementations, Social Aspects and Applications. In addition, Tarek holds different editorial functions with several scientific journals in AI and neighbouring fields (including Cognitive Systems Research and the Journal of Artificial General Intelligence).

Tarek also serves as chairman of the German Institute for Standardization (DIN)’s National Working Group on Standards and Norms for AI (part of the ISO/IEC JTC-1 SC 42 “Artificial Intelligence”), and as an expert member of the Digital Future Society’s Think Tank Working Group on “Data Ethics and the Challenge of Digital Privacy”.

Victoria has over a decade of experience in the semiconductor space. She currently heads up Strategic Partnerships at Graphcore, working with key customers and leading Research & Universities AI engagements. Previously she held several leadership positions at NVIDIA from global alliances, product marketing and campaigns to the founding of the GPU Technology Conference. Prior to joining NVIDIA, Victoria worked in the hedge fund space, as Executive Director for the Hedge Fund Business Operations Association. Victoria is a frequent contributor to ACM SIGGRAPH and is AR, MR & VR Chair for the SIGGRAPH 2019 Conference. She’s also an active member of the Consumer Technology Association’s AI Working Group.

Laurence Thorne is the policy manager for AI within NHSX and is supporting the development and delivery of the NHS AI Lab. Previously, Laurence has led the procurement and delivery of digital and transformation projects across government including in education, transport and health.

Dr Fanny Burrows is a Senior Programme Manager in the Innovation Team at LGC in the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility.
Fanny manages a portfolio of Invention for Innovation (i4i) projects and Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) Healthcare projects. She also takes responsibilities for sourcing and managing expert members for the review panels and acts as a Patient and Public Involvement Lead.
Prior to working with the NIHR, Fanny spent a few years in a Medtech company, developing and transferring novel materials for applications in medical devices and focused on antimicrobial and haemocompatible coating technologies. Her work involved the research and development of biocompatible technologies, from feasibility stage to regulatory approval and market growth. Fanny was involved in a range of medium to large projects including technology transfer to global medical devices manufacturers.

Jo became involved in the AI Lab in January 2020 focusing on our first AI Health and Care Award. She does this alongside her role as head of office for the chairs of NHS England and NHS Improvement.
She has been working for the NHS for over 6 years now, originally from Australia where she studied both a Bachelor’s of Public Health and Health Promotion as well as a Bachelor of Commerce.
Jo worked in operational roles in Australia, focusing on opening café franchises from Dec 2011 until her move to the UK in July 2013 enjoying working with various stakeholders, building relationships and developing the franchise model.
She lives in Camberwell and loves the diversity and community of London.

With a keen interest in the potential of technology Dan joined NHSX in 2019 to lead implementation of the new NHS AI Lab.
Prior to this Dan spent 10 years managing government programmes including 6 years abroad with the Department for International Development in countries such as Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dan has specialised in implementing large health programmes in challenging environments and recently led the design and implementation of a £350m multi-donor programme providing basic health services in South Sudan. When not at work Dan enjoys tormenting his family with the latest smart home technology.
